Monte Carlo ready!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been called by Skoda today to say that my Fabia I ordered is ready at the dealerships for collection. Unfortunately I'm in the US in business until late on the 28th August. I've been very straight with them and told them I'm back on the 28th and said as I couldn't collect till after then and could they let me collect it on the 1st September as it will be 3 days till the new registration comes out. They said that they can't as it states in the vat free offer that it must be collected within 10 days. I personally don't think it's unreasonable to request the car is delayed by another few days to get the new reg? Does anyone else think it's madness for them to insist it's collected and is literally got a couple of days remaining on the 11 plate. They have said as I'm out of the country they understand there is no way I can collect, I shouldn't have been so honest and said I was away for longer.

If they insist it isn't allowed to be delayed by another couple of days I'm going to hold firm and cancel it. I hope they will see sense and allow me a couple of days extension.

Anyone think this is unreasonable?

Cheers,

Matt

I see both sides here as I picked up my VRS yesterday.

I thought about making a fuss about a 61 plate, but in reality it's the same car with an 11 plate.

Add to that I don't care what other people think ;)

Wouldn't it be a shame if your overseas trip was delayed by a couple of days? These things happen and are out of your control. ; )

I think it's completely unreasonable for your dealer not to wait a couple of days.

register it yourself, i might do mine as i dont want my reg starting with p (preston plate) i would rather it start with m for mancheter) but im not sure if can be botherd with the hassle

I think it's more that it has to be registered within 10 days? Anyway, if you only get back on the 28th then there is no way you can collect it within 10 days and they are just going to have to keep it until you are back. You can't cancel it now, it's built and delivered. If you want to walk away now, you will lose deposit at minimum and they could even legally force you to buy it.

If you were a dealership with limited parking space, would you want a customer car sitting there taking up valuable space for any longer than necessary? I don't think it's unreasonable for them to expect you to collect it as soon as possible. New reg means absolutely nothing other than vanity.

Difficult one, mine arrived on 12th Feb and picked it up 19th which 10 days before new reg. Would have of course liked to hang out for 11 rater than 60 reg, but at the end of the day just to get the car in under 8 weeks was a result and to be honest the vanity thing on the new regs for me over the years has worn off. Plus was warned up front at time of order than whenever car arrives it must be registered within 10 days due to the VAT deal (even think it was in the terms and conditions of the deal)

However in this particular example, considering you are away and its a 3 day difference I would like to thing for once the dealer would allow the new reg.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks people,

Mixed views but I think I'm going to stick to my guns and go for the 61 plate if I can. I get back on the 28th late PM and they are shut on the Sunday anyway. The Monday is the bank holiday but even if you include that it would mean that they have three days before I would need to collect. The thing that annoys me is that I am genuinely away until the 28th and can prove it to them if needed. The car is literally the first brand new car we have ever been able to buy and I know a plate makes very little difference but I would love it to be new on the day.

I'll let you know what has happened. I've written to the sales manager overnight and explained my situation. I'm fairly sure I'd lose the deposit, I haven't signed anything though in way of ordering the car so I guess it hangs in the balance.

Ill keep you updated from the US. Matt

PS, have a Dodge Charger as an "Economy Rental" out here. 3.5ltr car classed as economical WTF!

did they/Slowda delay the car from quoted delivery date at all? if so you could throw that back at them, ie ive waited blah blah blah longer than originally quoted

New reg means absolutely nothing other than vanity.

Not true, I've seen examples of cars with older build dates but a later registration date with a newer plate advertised for more money.

It may not be much but a 61 plate car will ask a higher used price than an equivalent 11 plate.

Have the dealership at any point given you a date of delivery, even as an estimate?

e.g. have you been waiting longer than they told you originally?

They originally said it'd be ready in September/October time so it's early if anything. One thing to point out is that I have never had anything through in the way of a receipt for the £1000 deposit, nor have I had anything through in the way of sales documentation so was unaware of the 10 day rule before the call the other day. I have signed nothing agreeing to the 10 day registration although I guess this works both ways as they can say they haven't agreed the price either!

I'm a little dissapointed that they have not responded to my email two days ago. The sales rep said he would also call me back when he has discussed it with his boss, again this was two days ago. I'm hoping no news is good news.

Wait a moment - you've had no receipt or sales documentation? On what grounds can they demand registration within 10 days then. Doesn't sound like there's any contractual obligation for that, going on what you've said. Doesn't sound like you have any evidence of the order at all!

If they've failed to mention the '10 day rule' previously, either verbally or in writing then it is unreasonable of them to expect you to conform with this.

If indeed it's also early against the indicated information, you could cite that you do not have the necessary funds to complete the purchase... until the 1st of September.

Literally have nothing in writing other than the quote for the finance. Barring that there is nothing, I have not signed a thing to say I've reserved it or agreed to any terms or conditions.

Just phone them and say you can't collect it until september to ensure you get a new reg.

That is providing it hasn't already been registered on an 11 plate.

I didn't get a response to the email from the Sales Manager so I called from the US to speak to them in person. The Sales guy was off ill and the Manager was on the phone. I asked them to call me back on the US number and got an email a few minutes later from the Slaes Manager in response to my request. I'm hopeful something can be done now, I did respond again by email stating I have no signed contract or details so I think they know the position. I'll keep you all informed :)

Not really sure how you've managed to order this, with no signed paperwork!

I have a feeling it'll work in your favour though....

Seems mad doesn't it. I literally visited the dealership on the day of the Royal wedding as I wanted it to be quiet. They let me test drive a 1.2Tsi and then gave me a quote for the finance. I said I'd call them and went to talk to the wife. I called up, paid the deposit and that was the last I heard until May when theynsaid it may be ready in July. Still no paperwork or alike. I have feeling they arenwell aware of no signature now so will probably fold on this occasion.

Crazy, and a slightly worrying way of running a dealership. So you signed up for finance on it as well, through Skoda? And still no paperwork....

Who's the dealer? And you said in your first post you got a call 'from Skoda' about collection? So that came from SUK, not the supplying dealer?

Just for your info I ordered my Octavia VRS in Jan and stated at the time I didn't want it until May at the earliest, I was called at the beginning of April and told the car was ready for collection and when did I want to collect it. I stated I didn't want it until May so the dealer just stored it until 30th April for me. They had the car for a month unregistered and there was no problem with Skoda or the offers (it was ordered on VAT free). When I collected it the dealer stated they could have stored it for as long as I wanted and they have never had an issue with SUK, so it is possible if the dealership wants to do it.

Well, just managed to get an earlier flight from the US as Irene was due to arrive in New York today. I managed to get an earlier flight so arrived home late yesterday which was a big relief. I got an email from Yeovil Skoda who said it is possible to pick up the car on the 1st September and it will be a 61 plate, result! I think the fact I haven't signed anything to do with the finance and have no sales agreement with them that has swung it for me :)

So, Thursday 1st of September I pick up my new Monte Carlo 1.6CR. Couldn't have worked out better timing really, I get the new reg on the first day it's out!

A sensible choice by the dealer :) Enjoy your new car :D

Forgot to say it's the 105bhp too, thought for the extra few hundred pounds ot was a far better bet. I got cruise control, full electric windows, reverse parking sensors, mats and full spare wheel on it. I go to see it tomorrow and sign the paperwork, really looking forward to picking it up Thursday now:)

Congrats glad it worked out.

Look forward to pictures and your first impressions.
