16 inch rims for vRS winter tyres

Featured Replies

OK - thanks. Thought they'd be around that price. A fair price increase per corner, over 16" versions to the same spec. I have my original 17s I could use, but it's still a £400 outlay at the end of the day. Hmmmm.....

  • I'm quite sure Skoda wouldn't be supplying a steel wheel fitted with a 205/55/16 tyre as the spare for the vRS if it wasn't suitable

I like to drive the car and pay that much for the summer rubber so why not for the winter tyres they are on for 4 to 5 months of the year.

That's just a speed warning, not correction.

You may be right.

You can alter the speedo +/- 5 mph on the new Fabia Vrs to compensate the difference in wheel/tyres size for winter rubber

see my post above, it is a speed warning.

see my post above, it is a speed warning.

If it's a speed warning why does the Fabia Vrs have a other setting called " Speed Warning " which you can set to warn you of your speed.

The one you may be thinking of is under a heading "Winter"

I will stand corrected though

You are Indeed Correct, It's a speed warning for the Max Speed of the winter tyre fitted if it's lower than the Tyres fitted as Standard

Page 19 of the Fabia MII Handbook

I asuume the Octavia will be the same (but perhaps not on page 19:giggle:)

My octy has it too. Its to set the max speed for winter tyre in addition to the speed limit warning.

Regardless of which there should be no need to change if you get the correct tyres.

See my last post

Slightly misquoting but still true "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing tyres"

Hi! i want to buy 16" with ET 35 for my octavia rs 2011, and since orginal is ET50, will the 16" ET 35 fit?

//Thanks for replay.

You need a higher offset ideally. I would aim for no lower than ET45 on a 6J 16" wheel.

Hi all.

I might have a daft question but I prefer getting straight answer. I have a chance to buy alloys off a 2004 A3 SE, these are 16", 6.5j. Unfortunately don't know the offset (probably 42 or 45). Would they fit my 06 Octavia vRS? I'm slightly concern about the round metal disc sticking out of rear (not sure about front) brake discs - kind of looks like a heatsink/radiator. Is it really one? Would these alloys fit anyway?

Thank you in advance.

Update: The offset is 50 (ET50). Unfortunately no pictures.

Posting some info about them, or a photo will help us tell you for sure. 2004 is almost certainly, 99%, an A3 Mk2 (8P). In which case, yes they'd fit.

And the round metal disc you've spotted is a shield, to try and protect the braking system from stones and debris, as much as possible.

Here's the email from my Skoda dealer (email me if you want the dealers name) confirming the recommended size.

Thank you for the enquiry relating to the winter tyres / wheels.

The Cost of 4 x 16" wheels for your VRS would be £253.15 inc vat.

Winter tyres are as following :-

205/55R16 DNLP WINTER SPT 4D 91H £138

205/55R16 GYR UG 8 WINTER 91H £138

205/55R16 MATADOR MP59 91H £95

205/55R16 PIRELLI W210 SZ S2 91H £139

Price for tyres is each inc vat plus fitting.

I know.

Bought the genuine wheels but got Dunlops from elsewhere a lot cheaper

Wow I can't get my head round people paying over £250 for a set of STEEL wheels :o

Are these rims different to the black 7" x 16" ET45 that I bought from my Skoda dealer at £180 for a set of 4 last year? Which happens to be the price of 1 Moon alloy.

Especially since you can get good second hand 16" alloys off ebay for under £200.

What is the score with 7x16 rims? My dealer told me the only fitment for an octy vrs was 6.5x16, or is that rubbish??

I have a Yeti

I have a Yeti

Yeti can use the 6J or the 7 AFAIK, but the 6J is what I had on my Octavia. Currently they are sitting in my garage until someone decides if he wants them, then they're going up for sale on fleabay

6j for use with 205/55 R16 or 7j for use with 215/60 R16 on a Yeti.
