1.9 tdi estate injectors

Featured Replies

hi guys i have an 03 1.9 tdi estate that misses when started from cold. when warm it seems to be ok. at a service yesterday at my regular non main dealer they said £180 for an injector. today i rang the main dealer at burntwood and they quoted £516 for number 3 cylinder injector and £278 for any of the other injectors.

yesterday was a shock but on balance does,nt appear too bad

any advice or opinions you could share?

thanks in advance

do those symptoms not suggest to you glowplugs?

or timing out a fraction?

The glowplugs aren't required in this weather and don't operate.

I would agree that the timing needs checking. When was the cambelt last changed?

not sure about the cambelt, i will have to go through the service records and report back.

is the cambelt listed as "toothed belt replaced" in the service book under the yes/no listings? if so the belt was changed at all electric garages limited on 25/06/07 at 123841 miles. current mileage is 185765

Yes, and it's overdue for a change. With age, the belt stretches and this causes the timing to become retarded. This may be the cause of your problem.

If there is an injector problem, provided the lift sensor in injector 3 is good, you can get all of them rebuild for £100-£150 (at 185K you probably need new nozzles).

I must change mine again, (overdue by 6k), now at 186k. I am hoping my injectors (and nozzles) are ok.... she still pulls ok. Although I am not the the van behind me liked it when I booted off a roundabout in 3rd and went to visit the red line last night and left a nice cloud of black in his headlights :giggle: I had to clear out the cr@p which had been building up after the last thousand miles of motorway 2k rpm tootling along.

You can get the injectors sonically cleaned or renozzeled. which would probably help if it is them.

I'd be getting a fault code scan using VCDS before you start paying out for injectors.

Also worth making sure your battery is good, as a low battery can make cold starting much harder.
