LED Sidelight Bulbs

Featured Replies

Am I missing something here,?

Over the past three monhts I have purchased three sets of LED bulbs for the front sidelights on my Fabia.

On each occassion one of the bulbs have blown when switching the sidelights on, I am well aware that these LED's only work when connected the right way round.

What am I doing wrong as I am fed up buying duff bulbs.

Thanks for any ideas.

are you buying cheap ones?

Where are you buying them from? Have you taken them back?

Yes all cheapies from Ebay, perhaps that's where I am going wrong.

I have these fitted in swmbos Golf, lasted a week before 1 blew (but I think I may have been a bit heavy handed with the install). I sent the seller an email and 2 days later another 2 dropped on my mat - FOC. No problems so far, and they are a nice white colour, not the nasty blue tint of some.

I've given up with it too. I bought some 4.99 bulbs. Lasted until the weather got really cold (less than -10C) and then packed in. Got them replaced and now those are in my interior light, working well.

Second set of LEDs in the sidelights similar to the ones linked above, were about twice as much, and lasted about three months. A couple of the individual LEDs went and were blue anyway, so I binned them and went back to ordinary bulbs

Fitted the same $4.99 bulbs that you had and at under 0 degrees they stop working, got another set and fitted them in march and they are working fine without any problems, as soon as the weather gets colder again i'm swapping them for normal bulbs

I know nothing else about LED bulbs, but I do know that if they're plugged in backwards they just don't light up.

I use the Philips Vision LED's in 4300k and they are excellent. Had them in over a year now, and no problems yet (and I drive with them on constantly).

Where are they avalible from and can you post a pic pls

Not cheap, but I have had no hassle with them at all so it was worth it. I spent more than that with Ultraled's just replacing blown ones all the time

I have some cheap ones off eBay. They have been on since February and have been faultless. If anyone wants the link pm me. I'm on my phone presently.

Well after reading all this I settled for the Philips Vision LED's 4300k, pricey but worth the money, One added bonus they are not polarity sensitive and can be fitted either way round.

Had a spare 5000k LED so I tried it in the footwell lights in swmbo's Golf, no comparison really.

Ordered 3 more pairs to do the rest of the interior lights.

Anyone know what fittings are on a Mk2 octavia, or indeed any of the models so we can make sticky for others?

I know I fancy some white LED's now!

To complete the LED look for the the interior of a mkII, you will need 2 x 501/W5W and 2 x festoon bulbs. I would say they will all need to be CAN bus friendly.

Thanks.

What do you think of them so far? Stupidly bright I think considering the size of the actual LED. There is some clever optical design gone into the lens to project the light too which I like B) rather than just any old LED stuck on a stick :giggle:

Well pleased with them, and you are correct in what you state that they do have a lens to project the light.

I am amazed the amount of light that one small bulb can emit.

I got them off Ebay (Geniune Philips) where a seller is £5 pounds cheaper than Powerbulbs..

Interior LED,s don't need to be CAN friendly as I got complete set inside my MK2 Octy. Nice White light and more better on the eyes.
