One way valve & Catch Can Pipework

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This may have been covered, and I'm sure I have seen the thread somewhere before, but I can't find it for the life of me. When fitting a catch can, do you have to keep the one-way valve installed in the breather/vac hose under the inlet, or can it be removed? I assume it has to stay, to stop pressure going back into the crankcase, but I thought I'd read somewhere that somebody had removed it completely and just fitted a single hose from the elbow joint coming off the block and running it to the catch can.

I shall be installing on of these soon, and I'm aware there are a few very good guides on here for fitting, but ideally I want to remove as many hoses as possible, that aren't reall required.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,

Some people blank off the inlet and as you say just use the feed from the sump via the r/angle spigot on the front of the engine.

I went the route of trying to keep the breathing as std as possible and did fit a new one way valve into a short silicone reducer from Forge.

It is very cramped getting that 19mm hose under the manifold but it can be done. If you look at the picture the blue T piece handles "oily air"

and the white T piece "clean air" (this also connects to the inlet manifold via the one way valve and a r/angle hose +straight connector.

If you decide to go this way let me know and I can give you a list of the hoses and bits . NB You will need loads of hose clips.

Hi Sam, here is the guide i did for the OCC install

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/141132-occ-installation/page__p__1766813__hl__occ+install__fromsearch__1#entry1766813

After i did this i then went one step further and tidied up the pipes and removed unwanted stuff including that one way valve that goes to the right angled pipe to engine block(seen in silver bullets top picture also)

Found in this thread.

Very interesting an helpful replies guys, thanks alot! I knew i'd seen the thread somewhere!

Haven't quite decided whether to keep the one-way valve yet, so i'll post up again when I have.

What is the advantage of having the one-way valve? This is the first fairly new engine i've had, so i'm still learning about upto date breather systems... I'm used to a simple one on my Nova, but nothing like these, and i've rebuilt and changed the spec of the engine so many times, it doesn't matter really lol.

Cheers

Sam
