What needs to be replaced (Lower Arm or Lower Arm Bush)

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

I have Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 2007 Model. I am facing problem with the Lower Arm of front wheels. Bushes are gone, resulting a wired noise while putting breaks. I consulted with Mechanic and he suggested to replace the complete Lower Arm instead Lower Arm Bush. Changing of Lower Arm Bush will may again create same problem in few months. It would be helpful if someone can suggest the best way to treat with this problem.

It would prob work out cheaper if you changed the arms. By the time you factor in the labour costs to change the bushes.

The problem with changing the whole arm is that invariably (well, not quite perhaps but usually) it's a cheap pattern part either from the factors or ebay. While obviously meeting minimum standards these usually aren't quite as exacting as true OEM. I seem to remember genuine being £55+vat each vs £50pr on ebay but given that the wishbones are one of those fairly critical parts if you like being in control of where you're going i'd say it's a price worth paying - there have been a few horror stories of cheap pattern parts failing and as a pattern part is more difficult to trace the history of it's not ideal.

Just have the whole wishbone/arm replaced, as it's easier/quicker. The new arm will come complete with new bushes installed.

It's only 5 bolts to remove in order to swap the arms.

Either buy the arm from Skoda direct, or make sure you get a true OEM (Lemforder) part.

Resurrecting an old thread, as it's on-topic for my question.

Our Mk1 1.8 auto has just failed her MOT on the front lower suspension arm rear bushes (both sides).

The Haynes manual talks about have to use a press to remove and replace the bushes which means, apart from having to have a press, that the arm has to come off the car first.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's possible to replace the original one-piece pressed-in bush with a two piece bush that just bolts in.

This means, if I can get the remains of the old bush out, in-situ, then the whole job can be completed without removing the arm.

IIRC the replacement bushes were as fitted to the Audi TT.

Trouble is, I don't know if this whole idea was a figment of my imagination and I can't find any reference to the Audi TT part numbers.

Can someone with a clue point me in the right direction?

Cheers

Are you sure you are not thinking of the TT subframe bushes?.

Could be...

That's the thing, I remember reading something years ago when I didn't think it was relevant, and now I'm just not sure.
