Repair cost

Featured Replies

Having had some scum hit my missus car on a roundabout (and drive off), we just got a quote for repair work.

Knock dent out front of nearside wing and spray.

Take bumper off tidy up and paint damaged section.

Cost £590 quid.

Sounds rather a lot to me. We're going to get some more quotes, in the meantime what do people think? Experience?

The bodyshop we got the quote from was a VW approved place, if we didnt get it done at a VW approved place would this affect paint/corrosion warrenty?

Ta.

Sounds quite cheap to me and yes it will effect your Warranty if it is not done by VW... :)

Thanks Looby,

Guess I'm a bit out of touch with these things, your not the first person tonight so say that's not a bad price.

Will have to grin and bare it. Just hoping CCTV has picked up the other persons reg number so we can get 'em.

You may frighten the boys in the bodyshop if you BARE it - perhaps best just to BEAR it instead!

Ahhh. What price a context-sensitive spell-checker? :D

Things always seem too expensive when the money has to come out of your own pocket. :dull:

That's unlucky! Sorry to hear it! But I also thought £590 isn't so bad. Another member was quoted £350 to respray door and fit foil....

Are you going through insurance at the moment, or have you not reported it?

If you deal through insurance then I can see the insurance company more keen to sort it out than you and chase up the hit-and-run driver, otherwise small claims might work, but wouldn't the police want to be involved before you to charge the guy with dangerour driving?

Not sure if we are going through insurance yet or not. Need to weigh it up, repair cost v inevitable premium hike.

Why go through insurance and lose your NCB, plus, like you say, suffer a massive hike in premium next time?

Insurance is worthless for this kind of thing. I think just bite the bullet and get it done yourself.

Aren't you supposed to notify insurance about things like this as well? Seems ridiculous when it wasn't your fault but you know what they're like :(

Sounds about right - I did similar damage to the rear quarter of my Octavia when my stone gate post moved into me while I was reversing into the drive.

Repair/respray back quarter, replace black bumper insert, and a few other bits - £600. That includes parts, labour and VAT - be sure that they havent just quoted labour with parts to be added. That was at DM Keith's in Leeds who did a pretty good job I must say!

Something to bear in mind when you decide whether to claim:

I claimed on my insurance - I have no-claims protection and this was my 1st at-fault claim in 35 years driving. Kept my no-claims bonus but at the next renewal the premium was hiked by about £100. When I queried it I was told "The premium was increased beacause you made a claim - but you still get a full no claims dicount off the increased premium" :o
