Fitted My AP coilovers :)

Featured Replies

Well after a Month of waiting for my Jom redlines to appear, I rang Venom Motorsport who told me that Jom did not have any redlines in stock :wonder:

The bloke on the phone then asked me if i would like to choose something else. At the time i just wanted the redlines, however, the bloke on the phone said he could give me some AP coilovers for the same price as the Joms (Result  ) So 2 days later my AP's arrived and they looked great. However, looking at the part number is was clear they had sent me the Audi A3/ Beetle/ Leon/ golf mk4 versions not the Octavia. I was abit worried about this but had read that the AP's for the Octy are abit too soft, looking up the weights for my version they were capable of taking 1020kg on both axels where as the ones rated for the octy were only 1000kg. Once fitted i thought OH **** i've made a big mistake, i couldnt work out if they were abit bouncy because they were new, or because they were that stiff the ride was solid. After a week of driving they seem to be a little better but im still not sure if there bouncy or break your back rock hard and causing the car to bounce. There is absolutely no lean in the corners watsoever so im swaying towards the too stiff to really move explanation. Im totally used to it now and i love them. Here are some pics of them fitted

nice mate,

you got the hight nice too, dont really wanna go too low as they get bouncy and the handling is crap too..

should of read it first lol,

You might find you on the bumpstops?

Also the weights are different where you look, the octavia needs 1020 front and 1070 rear where the Leon,A3,golf are all 1020 1020. the golf estate is the same as the octy.

hth

iirc Sweedish/OET? cant keep up with the name changes lol, had these APs on his and found they were on the stops even when raised up a fair bit. Might not of been him but I certainly recall someone having probs with them.

How can the back be heavier then the front? :wonder: Also i noticed that the weitecs are only rated 1000kgs for the front and the back but they seem to work fine the vRS.

I presume those are maximum weights, i.e., with luggage and passengers which with the overhang of the Octy's boot, would make this believable. Something else to back this up is the tyre pressure ratings; with a load, the rears demand a higher pressure (quite significantly on my estate) than the front.

But strangely the Superb 130TDi demands higher at the front than the rear :S

I've just done mine to 37psi on the fronts and 35psi on the rears in preparation for our holiday tomorrow :)

I was also thinking about these AP coilovers for the Superb. They get pretty good write ups most places

Billy it was not Oet but another member who i think ended up replacing them as they were a suspect set.

I am wondering if Weitec,KW increased poundages as the original poundage was not up to it.

As Billy states there are differences to the poundages on these cars. Actually it is only recently that the weitecs have changed to a heavy poundage for the octy. They used to be 1000kg front and rear as per the AP's and KW's(all made in the same German factory). I have the Leon Cupra Weitecs on my car rated at 1020kg front and rear. And as you stated with your AP's there is a lot of bounce on them in early days. I also think this could be that they are stiffer. You will be pleased to know the bounce gets better as the car and suspension beds in. Certainly did on mine.

that's cos it's got a tonne weight oil burner sitting directly above the front axle!

A bit different from a modern turbocharged petrol unit, on a different chassis too so no wonder the spring ratings are different!!!

I meant tyre pressures. The post I quoted was from an Octavia 110TDi driver, so the same tonne weight oil burner sitting directly above the front axle, so why the difference in tyre pressures? I know the Octavia has an overhang, but still…

I have the jom plus coilovers on my vrs and i think the rear springs on mine arn't strong enough because even with coils wound right up on bottom of seat as far as i dare they are still low at back,

Its fine when there is nothing in boot or nobody in back but as soon as there it it is dragging its back,

I have a friend that works at a engine place that recons them but they prep alot of race cars so have alot of contacts one of which makes suspension components and he said he might be able to knock some stronger springs up, not got round to removing my rear springs for him to use as templates yet tho
