RAPID REMAP

Featured Replies

Well folks as per title? Got a guy local to me, quite cheap prices so look

forward to your reviews...

Never heard of it. It will be cheap for a reason. You pay your money and take your chances.

+1

Never heard of them. Does their company name refer to the performance of the map, or the speed at which they do the work?!

And how much are they charging?

website here: rapid remap

Good points: they actually have a location that you can visit, so better than the untraceable mobile mappers.

Bad points: they appear not to be widely known - have they just started or are there other reasons?

Another thing I picked up is that they send off for the remap rather than have the databases there - so if that is the case who are they sending it to?

So I guess you need to compare to the alternatives. Shark obviously has a very good rep on here and many happy customers, but if you are not near to them then the cost of the remap by the DIY STS equipment is high (£650) compared to Bluefin from Superchips (currently on offer for £405 all in from JKM), and while I know there will be people that say that Bluefin isn't VAG specific (although JKM are), it is currently a partner for VW Racing so I assume that must mean something at least.

But of course there are plenty more - Revo (which is VAG specialist) always gets good reviews and is widely available, although its Bluefin/STS equivilent is more expensive (and personally I like the idea of being able to reverse the remap yourself as per Bluefin/STS etc)...

I'm with DNA tuning, I've had stage 1 and are now on stage 3 with a very big grin. I have the SRSii unit which is exactly the same as the Shark sts, i can swap maps as i wish. Here is a link to a group buy on another forum.

For the sake of an extra £100 or two I'd stick with the well known, good rep guys (Shark Performance). Paying the extra is well worth it IMO just in case you ever have any problems and need the extra support.

Ben at shark performance is brilliant, and a solid supporter of these forums. Wouldnt trust my car with many other people at all! ;)

Thanks for all input so far guys. no actual personnal experiences with this company though. I suppose that says it all really! A guy at work swears by this place , he had his fabia vrs pd done there and says his brother has had his golf gti mkv done both with excellent results. He now has a new octy vrs cr and is in process of getting this done for £295 all in. So very competitive pricing but as people keep pointing out could be cheap for a reason:/

They could also be a perfectly reputable person who is either small so not well known or only just starting out so again just making a name for himself (I am sure places like Shark also started like this with not many people knowing about them). Since you have some personal recommendations for them with VAG cars I would say you are probably quite safe. Hence I would be tempted to dave a bit and go for it. Like you said at least they have a location you can see so not a fly by night setup. Just because they are not well known on this forum does not mean they are bad.

Exactly, Shark are very new to the tuning business compared to some companies. If you went on other forums you would get a completely different set of recommendations. I would do a lot of searching and ask if they make the files themselves or if they import them in and if so from who, I certainly wouldn't rule them out.
