Couple of places to have a look... try giving Chris at z-cars a call over near Hull ( http://www.zcars.org.uk ). They are the ones responsible for a fair few bike engined instalations including the 1000bhp Ultima.

The other good resource online is go to http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/bike-engined-cars/ which is a good online comunity for bike engined cars.... mainly kitcars but there are a variety of vehicles on there.

didnt realise z cars were in hull :D as im in york i may go for a test drive :P

depending on if you're dead set on using a mk2 then you may be interested to know that z-cars will be releasing a full kit for a fibreglass bodied bike engined mini sometime this year.... sounds like it would be a cracking car to upset all the chavs in saxos :)

do you happen to know how heavy a stripped out mk2 is? just wondering what type of bike instalation you would go for as I would imagine you would need at least a hyabusa or turbo r1 to give enough power for the weight (or rather torque for the weight) to make it easily drivable.

i was thinking busa then later turbo busa 1.6

a fully laiden mk2 rs1600 that is weighs 870kg so id say easy get it down to 600kg

Wouldnt a Cossie transplant be cheaper/easier,

but it doesnt rev to 13k :P and doesnt have a 6 speed sequential box :)

steve, see if you can get yaself a ride in a bike engined car and you will quickly see the advantages to the idea! :p its so unlike driving a "normal" tuned car and just makes ya grin like an eejut.

600Kg should b fine for a busa... my old car was down to 450kg with a blade engine and was rather rapid... busa power in 600Kg gives around similar power/weight, other thing to remember is removing old boat anchor cast iron engine and gearbox you will save around 100kg+ by swapping to bike power

another thought... would you be planning to go for a complete conversion to mid-engined with new independent rear suspension, or mid-engined with a very short prop-shaft to the original live-axle... or it would possibly fit into the engine bay with a long prop to rear.

Ford didn't build a mk II RS1600 it was the RS1800.

I would have thought even a much lightened Escort would still be too heavy for a bike engine. The leaf springs on a mkII probably weight more than the complete donar bike :(

Beside Ford made several cracking engines which just bolt straight in, or has someone suggested, the blown Cosworth will give you as much power as you could ever handle.

Any engine producing a similar amount of power will need to burn a similar amount of fuel? Why should a bike engine be more economical

Not a 3 bearing crank A series engine.

Bit better than Mr Vizard got out of an original engine. My 850cc engine put out 32 hp I think.  Probably similarly noisy at motorway speeds.
