Water entry into passenger side footwell

Featured Replies

I'm sure I've seen a post on this in the past, but to save time...

After all the heavy rain we had last week, I've just noticed a small damp patch underneath the mat on the front passenger side footwell. Its not really damp, and it actually smelt more damp than it was.

Is there somewhere obvious that water can enter the cabin? maybe if the scuttle was blocked under the bonnet?? Anywhere else I should check for debris etc.?

Cheers

Lazy!

Water ingress on the passenger side is normally caused by a grommet up near to the pollen filter under the scuttle panel. Also, if the drains from that area (down the back of the front wheel arches) are blocked, then that causes a build up water which can escape into the car.

Poorly fitted pollen filters can cause be an issue....

as mbames said, or there is the condensor tray in the footwell with a drain pipe through the bulkhead, if the bung for the pipe is no good then it can leak back into the car and cause a problem.

If you have run a sub powerline through, then the gromet that most people cut into can leak. Had in myself.

Also...

Take out the pollen filter and put your hand into the box and see if you can feel water. Thats what I did. Used tissue to mop it up then I just ran hot air through on a summers day to dry out the back pannel of the aircon unita its like a soft foam panel that soaks up water.

I have had water in as described above, but also due to clogged drain holes in doors combined with faulty plastic membrane behind the door trim.
