Rear camber settings error

Featured Replies

Due to a misunderstanding (don't ask) my rear camber settings were set today at left -0.51' and right -0.53'.

These are obviousy way out from even Skoda's revised settings.

A short drive suggests a harsher ride from rear, but this might be down to new tyres, but can anyone advise whether these settings are likely to give problems down the line or should I go back to get them corrected? (I'll have to spend money as misunderstanding was my fault :(

I would have thought being a degree off factory yes that's going to be a bit much.

My understanding is that the Skoda Octavia spec is negative 1 deg 20 mins +/- 30 mins. This would place your camber settings just above the bottom limit which be - 50 mins. You will get a much reduced inner edge rear tyre wear with your setting.

Personally I would have had had them set as close as possible to the nominal setting of -1 degree 20 mins. but yours are set wthin the factory specification albeit at the bottom limit.

Normal setting for the vRS is 1 degree 50', the 1 degree 20' is for all other Octavias (by the book)

Thanks Tech1e , I should have known that the Vrs would have more negative camber to give better handling ( bo***ks with the inside tyre wear - see how it goes around the corners !)

Went back to tyre place today to see about it. They set car up again and showed me what the numbers meant on the computer dials. Apparently the -0.51' means it is 9' less than the optimum of 1.20' , not what I thoguht, so well within the spec, if erring on the side of less inner edge wear which is what I want.

Had Avon ZZ3s fitted to rear which has completely got rid of the horrible droning. Put the rear Dunlops on the front and will burn through them asap to try and smooth out the sawtooths

As Tech1e posted, the vRS spec is - 1° 50ʹ not - 1° 20ʹ and assuming the same tolerance is applied to the vRS as the ordinary Octavia models, then your settings are below the vRS bottom limit of 1° 20ʹ i.e. your settings are nearly 1/2° out. The settings you have are only just within the ordinary Octavia model setting tolerance.

If you wish to sacrifice the improved handling of the vRS model over the ordinary Octavia models to get improved tyre wear then your settings should be OK. ( don’t tell your insurance co. that you have settings below the factory limit !)

Yes I saw that so now confused again! There's loads of posts on forum quoting these figures

http://octavia-vrs.com/cms/content/common-problems

which are alledged to be Skoda's revised ones from the old 1.45' +/- 30'. What is the truth? :( I haven't done enough miles to judge any handling differences yet, although ride may be a little harsher than it was.

i have mine rear on 3°camber
