Wood Trim strips

Featured Replies

With the basic “E” model most trim enhancements improves the cabin quality. I have just fitted the wood(well plastic really) trim panels which includes the large passenger side and radio console surround and a second short section which fits above the light switch. Fitting this was so easy...gently tease out the radio/ aircon surround ( I used an old dead cd) Then tease out the old trim starting by opening the glove box and gently prizing it away from the dash (force nothing!). There are eleven clips holding it in. The trim above the light switch is also gently eased out (only two clips). Once this is done the new trim may be pushed into place very gently until it snaps home then replace the radio surround trim.

Large trim: 5L2858418CDT8 MOULDING PO £58.04

Small trim: 5L2858417CDT8 TRIM FOR S £17.05

Just had a look on your blog, looks good. I actually pondered to whether to fit them or not. Suits it!

The pretend wood trim looks especially good with the Gobi interior (and with muscavado exterior - but then I'm biased!).

So the single din radio didn't last long then?

Or are you planning a different approach?

Love the wood trim. I might just treat myself ;)

Plan 19..... the single din unit was not successful, looked like an afterthought botch and was constantly seeking a signal here in the forest.

Pausing for thought but two schemes 1. get the Xcarlink working properly on the Swing radio or 2. there are a few Bolero units on eBay at very attractive prices

I am now able to pass with honours a degree course on Yeti dashboard fittings

So what's wrong with the single din system?

I upgraded mine to a Bolero and you definitely won't regret doing the same!

So what's wrong with the single din system?

I upgraded mine to a Bolero and you definitely won't regret doing the same!

It had poor reception, extremely complex to operate, did not sound as good as the SWING and it looked NAFF!

It is on eBay and if/when it sells I think the funds will be spent on a Bolero

Please help me with the Bolero, It seems vague about bluetooth connection

I assume you need an extra kit to enable bluetooth phone pairing not that that matters too much as Hetty the Yeti has a fixed handsfree

As you said the Bolero does not come with bluetooth, but the system is excellent none the less, easy to operate and brilliant radio settings means you do not have to wait for new stations when you are in different part of the country like the Swing (local station that is)

Have you considered fitting one of the Chinese Colombus lookalike? You have the trim and it might be a good idea. They could be quite cheap, comes with bluetooth and GPS, and some people seem to love it. Have a look at the ICE section of the forum.

PS. If you only wanted AUX in for your Swing then consider getting those on Ebay. I just had a look, unfortunately the one I bought is no longer for sale, but you can easily make one for less than £5, it works perfectly and take a look at this: http://www.my-gti.com/1319/volkswagen-rcd-310-pin-assignments

I don't think you need VCDS enable for that.

I bought my Bolero on ebay and the previous owner was able to link Parrot and a Dension to the Bolero.

The Dension might work with the Swing, but for the price, you might as well get a Bolero

My_Yeti,

Thank you very much for that advice... it is very tempting to make up an aux in jack as that would sort most of the problems

Best regards

No worries Mike.

Basically, this would be something close to what I was talking about: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aux-Line-out-VW-Audi-Skoda-2005-Fakra-12pin-4RCA-/140368344252?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item20ae9af4bc

However, ideally you would want a male aux on the other side.

Also watch out for the ISO connector (not sure if they are called ISO, but basically you want a connector for (5) on this picture

volkswagen_rcd_310_rear_N91-11040.gif

However, sometimes ebay sellers may supply you with one that fit (4) instead (which happened in my case), all you would need to do then is to remove the sleeve/outer casing and plug the inner casing into (5).

Plan 19B

Have just ordered the cable from eBay which should pick up the aux out off the cd changer connector as you suggested ... we await that coming!

Brilliant, I ran my aux cable to the glovebox, no removal required, as a temporary measure. I have bought a Phono cable with a female aux end, I plan to drill a hole in the cubby above the gearstick and "hot glue" it.
