Put the standard airbox back in but...

Featured Replies

I put the standard airbox back in today, replacing the K+N and cold feed that was there, as I was finding the car lacking power on hot days or after standing in traffic. It was a bit of a PITA to get the bottom half in and lined up with the two bolt holes as there was a support bracket coming up from the gbox mount which got in the way a bit (seemed to be bent out of shape) and then, after taking the breather filter off the SAI pipe, the elbow bit that connects it to the airbox wouldn't fit inside the SAI pipe.

So my questions are -

1. Is the support bracket OEM or part of the K+N kit?

2. Am I missing a bit that connects the SAI pipe and elbow or has it been cut?

Cheers,

Pat

IF I remember correctly there is like a stepped edge that the bottom part of the box fits over, but no bracket.

As for the SAI it is just a plastic tube with a push ring on it that sticks on to the box. No extra parts.

The support bracket is likely to be for the bolt on K&N kit to keep it secure. remove it.

If the kit was fitted to you car when you got it, it is most likely the SAI pipe is missing the 90' elbow. As that needs to be removed to fit the small filter. If not then the 90' elbow should have a shoulder on it that you squeeze both sides to lock it into the airbox.

Cheers! Will get rid of the bracket then.

I have the 90' elbow and fitting it to the airbox is not the problem. It's putting the 'stepped' end of the 90' elbow back into the SAI pipe thats causing me problems. It just wont go back in. Should there be some give/flex in the SAI pipe? Has mine gone rigid with the heat and being clamped to the breather filter?

It will go in trust me. It is tight. get a bit of washing up liquid and smear around the elbow and pipe and push together. It will click in.

Ok thanks. Will get some Fairy (there are other washing up liquids available  ) and my 'Arnie' arm out and put to work.

Cheers,

Pat
