I'm needing an oil change soon for me Furby. The 505.01 spec Skoda/SEAT/VW/Audi oil is incredibly expensive, something like

I've used it for my 40k & 50k oil changes, and a fresh bottle is going to be used for my imminent 60k one too! :D

My local ALS motor factors stocks it, and can normally just walk in and grab a bottle. I'd have thought any decent motor factors would have it (just ignore halfrauds.:D )

Why is it so important to use the correct oil in the PD engine?

Why is it so important to use the correct oil in the PD engine?

I've seen a few pics of a PD engine with the head off that had the wrong type of oil in it. There was excessive wear on the cam lobes. Bare in mind that the injection system is driven off the camshaft, this had detrimental effects on the whole running of the engine!

I would expect any semi-synthetic oil to be cheaper than a fully synthetic one to the same VW spec. Millers XFE-PD is a semi-synthetic oil whereas BP Special Visco V 5W-40, Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL PD SAE 5W-40 and Q8 Formula Excel 5W40 - to name but 3 - are fully synthetic.

Ive used it with no problems.

If you have a peek at the Millers page I think it will give a list of stockists by town or post code

It is vitally important to use a PD oil in the PD engine due to the pump.

The VW pd engines are very severe on the oil, the mechanical fuel pump delivers fuel at approx. 25,000 psi !!!!! to enable a very precise injector spray pattern which, in turn, gives excellent driving characteristics. The very high loads on the fuel pump will lead to VI improver shear down and oil viscosity loss if the engine is operated on lesser oils.

The surest way to shorten the life of your engine is to ignore this advice.

We did a group buy last month and are prepared to offer the prices again so check them out, you'll find them way cheaper than the Dealer!

Ibut on arrival they tried to sell me 506.01, both of them did that.

Did they also tell you that 506.01 was better than 505.01 "because it's a higher number"?

No, suprisingly. They both said that I should refer to my handbook but 506.01 should do the job.

It took a while to find some oil, just need a good price on the washer fluid next as you cant use cheapy stuff.
