decat yes or no ?

Featured Replies

should i get a decat yes or no ??

have heard the warning light comes on how do you get it off ??

what gain should i get been remapped upto 215 bhp approx

do you get a sound difference to

You'll need to have it mapped again when you do it or will cause your car to go into limp mode, and you want tge best map to take advantage of the mod?

Not sure on bhp gains but... Flames?!

dont think it goes into limp mode, just get the cel light on the dash, thats all, you can buy a spacer for the post lambda to prevent this also you can get it mapped out.

You can get the remap done too so it slightly over fuels I think on lift so you get some nice pops n bangs lol.

Do it!

No limp mode

No light!

If you do happen to get a light you can get your map tweaked to take it off. But come MOT time you need to have a cat fitted (I have a sports cat for sale  ) or it'll fail.

Don't forget though if you get pulled by the cops and they do a gas test your screwed.... I have known scores of people who have had that done to them.

Just seems a lot of messing around for not much gain. Yeah it might be a little noisier and (a little) better on flow, but not by much, and having to p!$$ around at MOT time as well... $od that!

100 cel cat is what you need. Perfectly legal and 95% as effective as de-acting in terms of flow.

Just my opinion...(probably just getting old!)

Steve

i agree with steve, way to many vosa checks in this part of the world and pain of changing it over once a yr is more effort than its worth!

vosa are having a big push at the moment mainly around the areas of there offices

guilford is a bad spot i know of a few scoobies guys being done!!!

must say a vrs with decat is very close to passing anyway so *******s fit a decat lol

daft to remove if it needs refitted to pass MOT, also how do you declare it to insurance if it would fail MOT when removed ???

better off with the least hassle method as stevie says, get a 100 or 200 cell sports cat and be done with it

Answer "yes"

Is a marked improvement over std and even a sports cat.

Benefits a litte more noise but not stupid noisy..

I have had no warning light

It is not about the BHP gain, but how the power is delivered. The torgue and boost curve on the mapped car is the important bit.

Mine is 226bhp with 262 lbs torque

I get a lot of poping now on the car now on de throttle and have had a couple of flames on a quick deceleration

Should not need car mapped for a decat and should not go into limp mode.

However if never mapped at all then good to see what the car is doing.

+1...

you other folks are getting old arent you.....too much hassle, not worth it....or perhaps you can't fit under the car anymore! :giggle:

love getting under the car and messing about. It's only once a year for MOT or have a decent MOT that can assist you.

Ah sorry for the mis information guys, I was told auq would do that..

Get it done!

My insurance company have insured me with a de-cat pipe. You will get the CEL light on. You'll need to find a freindly MOT tester ;) ;)

Not all decats give a cell light, it is down to where the O2 sensor mounting is on the decat, and even then you can get a 90' extension to move the O2 further out.

I have fitted 3 decats and not one gave me a cell light.

Do you get an on the spot fine with Vosa or do they warn you to change it first?

First check new MOT legislation coming-in this February 2014 dealing with cars that had originally been fitted with a cat or particulate filter, that have been removed.

If they are not present automatic failure..

I pinched attachment from fellow member to show you..

Just THIS!!!

I'm not afraid to break a nail hahaha

A missing CAT will fail the MOT now, even if the emissions are clean enough. (I'm an MOT tester).

It doesn't take long to change the CAT at MOT time, so get a decat fitted! As soon as I can find a cheapish one I'll be buying! One of the best mods you could probably do on a turbo'd car, helps with spool loads.

So what you are saying 'mushtafa' change the catalytic converter to a decat, then swap it around for the MOT then swap it back after the MOT, is that what your really saying?

Yes.

Well yes really unless you know a friendly tester  ;)  ;)

Just like saying I'll swap my tyres for your good ones just for the MOT and we'll swap back after..LOL

Illegal whatever way you look at it, concerning the decat swap-a rama for the MOT..

Play with fire and your gonna get burnt..sorry, no offence or insult meant nor intended.
