Rear pad change

Featured Replies

Looked through site to see if there was any info' but nothing came up. Question, after changing rear pads, i find that the hand brake now comes up "alot" further than it did before. Will this adjust itself through use? B) Just on a side point, do posts on the site just disappear, as one i put on about Workshop service manual has just gone. :(

Try to pull your hand brake for one or two "clicks" and try to start driving, or park your car in a reclined road. If the car can't move then it is OK, else maybe your hand brake is a bit loose, so you need to visit your mechanic to adjust it. It's not a big deal, but he should adjust it after pads change, unless you changed them by yourself.

Hand brake adjustment need two persons, one to adjust from the rear wheels and the other to press - release the brake pedal.

Also keep in mind that hand brake gets loose by time and often usage so you need to adjust almost every time you get your car serviced.

i had that when i did my rears a few months back, turn out one ofthe two handbrake cables came out the bit behind the handbrake lever

pop the can holder out the back of the handbrake surround and you will see a U shaped / semi circle bit of metal the two cable connect into and the threaded bar used to adjust the handbrake

check both cables are on correctly and you have given the foot brake a couple of good pumps to push the pads onto the disks correctly and if all is ok adjust the handbrake

i'll have a look in daylight and do some better instructions

Thanks for that. What i have found, after driving for four days, is that the handbrake is going back to its more normal position or more how it was before. Just need the rear pads to bed in now. Thanks again. B)
