No longer thinking about buying one.. I'm taking the plunge

Featured Replies

Hi all, thanks all for the advice in a previous thread. Just to let you know I am going to be placing an order for a 1.4tsi estate elegance in the next few days.

Options I am going for are:

Bluetooth phone/maxi dot/4spoke wheel.

sunset glass

metallic paint (probably in steel metalic grey or anthracite grey metallic, but not decided yet.

Light assistant

Feel as if i have got a pretty good deal from the dealer, only problem is the 10-12 week wait. Not great but not much choice.

Anything else I should add to the spec that I would be too good to miss out on? (Not prepared to pay over £500 for the Xenon headlights, but I'd like them!)

Looking forward to joining you all in Skoda ownership.

Thanks.

Charlie

Spare wheel (rather than the standard tin of tyre foam)?

Buy the xenons, they are more than worth it. Ive got them on my Fabia vRS and I'm currently looking for a used Octavia vRS with them, wont buy another car without them now.

Good to hear Charlie. As mentioned the full size spare is a must and comes at a very fair price.

As for the Xenons I too would strongly recommend them otherwise you've got the all important maxi-dot so all is well.

MDI also very useful if you like your music, if it is not standard (maybe just on the SE+ it is).

Another vote for the Xenons too.

10-12 weeks isn't bad, if thats what you get. Mine ordered mid-April, arrived 2nd week August, and that was quick compared to some.

Thanks fo rthe replies all. Will get a spare wheel added with the order.

Will you all please STOP going on about the Xenons.. They cost £500... for headlights....?! :)

I just about squeezed the bluetooth phone kit past the missus.. not sure I'm going to be able to convince her the lights it somes with are not good enough..!

MDI... not sure what it is.. but I think it allows me to plug my iphone/ipod into it to play music through the stereo? The car should come with the feature to allow me to plug in an sd card fullof music and browse it the touch screen.. hoping no one says otherwise...

But they do look so much nicer :smirk: They do incorporate cornering function for better viewing on bends, not really tested mine yet though. Also, due to the higher UV content the do pick out road signs better, and any other vehicle that may have reflective stickers on the side that may hide in side roads ;)

Ok enough of the Xenons.

You can use an SD card in the unit or use a 3.5mm jack for an external MP3 player, but you cannot control the mp3 player from the cars radio head unit.

MDI gives you that functionality, either a hard disk, USB stick or mp3 player can be connected via USB. Or an iPod cable is available and you can control that via the radio head unit.

The connection is in the glove box. I have a 250GB hard disk that sits in there, I just periodically mirror all my music from the home PC to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if he is getting the Bluetooth can't he just stream music from phone to the stereo? Much easier than plugging into an mdi IMO.

Yes you can stream with BT.

Is the 3 spoke steering wheel not an option? If it is I would go with that personally.

Overall though sounds like a nice spec car, as for Xenons, I have never had a car with Xenons so I didnt order them, if I have never had them then I wont miss them if I didnt order them, if I had ordered them then I would probably never want normal lights again! Dont worry the normal headlights are fine :-)

Good luck with the car and you have that awful wait now!!!

Yeah you get the SD card reader, and to be honest unless you have an excessive amount of music, that will probably be sufficient. Only thing on top of the spare wheel (make sure its the full size spare not the space saver, as you don't actually lose any boot space by going full size and they're the same price!) I would add is if you want a flat boot floor when you fold the seats down then order the variable boot floor. Its nice as you then get a handy cubby hole underneath the floor as well to store all manner of junk in!

IMO I think you got the essential options ie BT/MFSW/Maxidot and light assistant. All these costs much higher to retrofit which I am trying to do now.

I reckon the silver roof rails look much better than the standard black ones - lot cheaper than Xenons too!

Just tick the box and don't tell the Mrs.

One with a diesel engine or you will be sorry every time you fill up

Regarding the spare wheel, I didn't think you could get a space saver at all? (the skinny type) just a steel wheel with a sticker on it saying max 50MPH etc

Rather depends on the mileage that you do in comparison to the extra cost of the diesel engine. Not to mention the even longer lead time for delivery on a diesel.

Charlie.
