Drivers seat "creaks" and rocks

Featured Replies

I've recently noticed that my drivers' seat has started to make a creaking noise as my weight shifts in it (for example when I'm moving my feet on the pedals). It also "rocks" slightly backwards and forwards which I've not really noticed before. The back and the base rock together rather than it just being the back so the seat still feels secure and not like it's about to fall apart, but I'd prefer it if it didn't do it and the creak is really annoying, so...

I've found a guide on how to get the seat out if necessary, but once I've got it apart I don't really know where I should be looking. Has anyone else had & cured a similar creak in their vRS (or indeed any Fabia)?

Yep sometimes mine can creak, I changed the position of the seat and it seems to stop. The seats should be getting looked at start of next year anyway

Yeah, I played with the position of mine earlier (just done a 4 hour or so jaunt to Middlesbrough so had plenty of testing) and I've found it's virtually disappeared if I lift the height of the seat slightly (about half a "pump" of the height lever at most). So the position is barely changed but the noise has just about gone. It'll do for now till I get around to having a proper look anyway.

Yer if I wasnt going for a retrim, I would take them out check the ratchet and jack and try to isolate the noise then get out the good old wd40, although I would use a bit of good old copper grease

Out of interest, where are you getting your retrim done? Mine will need doing at some point (the front seats are a little bit of a let down with the car at the moment) and you're in a similar area to me, so might give me some ideas of where to go when I've got the spends to do it.

There is a gallery mate for fabia's that they have done and the word that comes to mind is workmanship! Plus gives you some ideas of what they can do, with colours and styles. However if you do find a good one local mate, please give us a shout would love to know

Ah, York's not too far away I suppose. Was hoping for somewhere a bit more local as I only have a single car so depending how long a retrim takes I'd have to blag a lift there to drop the seats off and the loan of my mum's car while they're trimming but York's doable. Just didn't want to end up having to book in somewhere the other end of the country!

Won't be looking into it for a while, as with you I'm hoping to nudge work into a little payrise first, but if I come across anyone locally I'll let you know. I'll check the Seat Surgeons gallery as well, already got an idea of what I'd like done but would like to see it on a car if possible as I'm not 100% sure it'd work how I think it would.

I think you basically tell them what you want, like you I know what I would really like. They ring you and tell you the covers are ready. They book you in for the retrim. They fit while you wait, and you drive back home smelling of the very best chinese cow skin.

Ahh, I see. I thought it would be a case of having to get everything measured to accomodate any variances in the seat and then getting the whole lot measured/cut/tailored/stitched/fitted. I guess the seats are all close enough that they can deal with any minor differences in the fitting stage though.

Mine does this too. Having had the seat out, I could not see anywhere where it moved that a nut/bolt could be tightened up. Will have to try the pumping it up in height slightly mentioned above. I think the movement is because of the up/down adjuster.

As already mentioned, raise the seat a little and it makes a lot less noticeable.

Hi guys, I am also affected by the creaking seat mentioned above, mine just started out of the blue last friday. Bloody annoying, have tried the up and down and also moving the back but to no avail. Looked at the post on stripping the seat down but is out of my league that, will just have to crank the stereo up methinks.

Bookmarked for a later date, it's behaving itself at the moment but if it comes back at least I know where to start, cheers!
