Front and rear wiper problems

Featured Replies

Hi to all of you. I seem to be having a electical problem with the wipers on my 2002 octi vrs. Had a problem with the rear washer and fonund the problem on here whitch is a common fault. The pipe had come apart in the boot near the multi changer. Fixed that problem and tested the rear washer, it works great., Then tonight went out with the kids to a local take away and the rear wiper just had a mind of its own even though its in the off position, then the front wipers started, and they where in the off position also, moved the stick to turn off with no joy until i pulled over and switched ignition off. As soon as car was running again they both started again, so I had to pull the fuse. Could this be a problem the the wiper stalk or could it be something more complicated? Thanks in advance

Rear wiper motor will be full of water. Remove the trim inside the tailgate and unplug the rear wiper motor. The fronts should then work as normal then.

Yes the glass around where the rear wiper exits the window has alot of codensation so will dismantle boot lid to expose the rear wiper motor, to be honest I think it needs changing due to it making a rough sound when its on. Thanks brisodian

Sorry I ment thanks ExAudiSi

No problem. There is a seal inside the gearbox which fails and allows screenwash to fill it up. Eventually, the water finds its way onto the electrical contacts and the circuit board located just outside and then all kinds of interesting things happen!

With mine, I couldn't turn off the front wipers and because I had the headlights on, the headlamp washers came on each time I went over a bump too.

Had a look at the rear wiper to find the wiring plug is soaked in water, used some wd40 dryed everything as much as i could and put it all back togeather. Fingers crossed up to now it seems ok. I will defo invest in a new rubber seal where the wiper comes out of the glass. Thanks again for your help

Why would I do that? I will get in touch with a local Skoda dealer and get a new seal. I like to see whats behind me thats why I have always owned a car with a rear wiper

Go for that smooth look ;). My friend had a clio and his went and ceased in place so in a moment of anger he hack sawed it off lol. Said he never needed it and made washing the car easier.

The seal that will most likely be causing your problem is part of the wiper motor assembly and is not available separately. It is where the screenwash tube goes up the middle of the wiper spindle.

Take the motor off and strip it down and clean it out and you will see that I mean.
