Rookie Octavia VRS WRC Driver

Featured Replies

I'm new to this site and just wanted to share this usefull information regarding Remapping Mk1 Octavia VRS.I recently bought my Octavia VRS from a nice chap called Graham in Biggar.I was pleasantly surprised by the ride comfort & performance as my last Turbo charged petrol car was a Nissan 200SX.To cut a long story short I decided that the engine needed a Tune as I detected flat spots in the lower gears.I searched the internet for a local firm and found a company called Custom Tuning.I researched them as much as possible & decided to go for it.My first point of contact was Adam.I took my car down to their workshop where they have a 4 wheel drive rolling road that cost them £70,000.My car was remapped and I took it for a drive.I instantly noticed a difference and was happy. On the way back home to Huddersfield I noticed a hesitation in fifth gear at around 80MPH.The car seemed like there was either fuel starvation or Turbo pressure was dropping on and off. When I got home I phoned Custom Tuning & told them that the car didn't feel right.Adam told me to bring the car back so they could have a look at it.I set off again to Bradford and Mick did some basic checks to make sure there wasn't any other problems. The coil packs were individually checked and found to be OK as car had only just been recently recalled by Skoda for new coil packs.Mick then slightly altered the mapping on the file.I drove the car home again and the car seemed to have improved but still wasn't 100%.I phoned Custom Tuning again the next day and arranged to take my car back to them after I had finished my night shifts. My next visit to Custom Tuning was on the 27th August 2011.Adam told me that Mick had been in touch with the software guys in Germany and had got to the bottom of the problem.Adam explained to me what had happened which was a rare case.By the way **** always happens to me!The file Custom Tuning had installed on the cars ECU was meant to run with the most updated software from Skoda. As my car was a virgin in the ECU department it had never been touched or updated.Custom Tuning installed the latest software from Skoda on to my cars ECU then reinstalled the remapped file.Adam told me the car would run 100% now.I thanked Adam for sorting it out.On the way home I noticed how smooth the car felt and how strong it pulled in every gear.I wont say what speed I reached on the way home but I was back in Huddersfield in less than 10 minutes. The hesitation problem had gone and the car feels rapid.I forgot to mention the price for the remapping cost me £150.This doesn't include the rolling road which is another £100 but no point unless you have invested £2000 under the bonnet. My experience with Custom Tuning was pleasant. If there is a problem they will sort it out as customer satisfaction is a top priority for these guys.I would definitely recommend.

Welcome, have removed link, it feels like an advert.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome to the club :D I think a lil remapping research on here would have saved you a lot of petrol :giggle: I am surprised they didn't know to check for this in the first place Ben at Shark wouldn't have made these mistakes.

Glad your happy now and enjoying it.

Welcome.

I've removed the direct links, it's not personal, but this did take on the feeling of a sales pitch towards the end.

But you appear to be very excited by your new car and remap. I hope you continue to be so impressed. The mk1 is a very good car with a remap lots of fun emoticon-0103-cool.gif.

Thanks for the reply.I wouldn't recommend any company unless I was 100% happy.I can promise you that I have no affinity with Custom Tuning.Credit where it is due. They researched the problem and sorted my motor out on the 3rd visit.Glad it's only a 30 mile round trip and any excuse for a chicken karahi in Bradford and the chance to open up the throttle on the M606 not forgetting that speed camera before the sharp bend that takes you on to the M62 west bound.

Cheers

I know where your coming from.Possibly amateurs but none the less they sorted it relatively quickly.I sold my lovely 350Z GT back in July and replaced it with VRS.I never thought I would own a Skoda as I felt my street cred would go to seed. After driving VRS I am surprised how good they are.I would buy another Skoda.Even if I was a lottery winner I would have one.Of course it would be new and fully loaded.

Cheers
