Fitting new radio/cassette MS202 In Felicia.

Featured Replies

Hi.

May i ask if anyone knows if a Grundig/Skoda music system 202 will fit my T reg 1999 Felicia 1.9 GLD 5 door hatch?

Will the wiring harness be the same?

Will it need any modification?

The guy i bought it from says the radio is not coded.

I would prefer to ask members for their advice before attempting to remove the original radio cassette.

The original is annoying me,as it will not switch on at times.

Sometimes it switches itself on.

I have to remove the control unit from the radio to make sure it does not switch itself on.

Any help or advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

The wiring should be the same except in a felicia there is no switched live on the radio so removing the key f orm the ignition won't switch off the radio... I thought that all the late skoda radios were coded tbh, so you will need the code.

This is the radio cassette that's in the Fabia isn't it?! If it is it should have a code (usually comes on a card/sticker in the manual), and there will be an extrusion of about 1cm at the top which may not fit adequately in the Felicia. You could probably file a small amount of this off. Also as it's intended for the Fabia, not sure if it would fit inside the plastic box the Felicia has.

The problem with the stereo loom in the Favorit and Felicia is that both constant live and switched live are constant lives. If it causes issues, or you want the stereo to turn on and off with the ignition, you need to take a feed from the ignition live that is only on when the engine is running if you wish it to only come on when the car is running - some stereo installation manuals warn about possible battery drain if this is not done. The easiest location to do this from is the fusebox (under passenger side of the dash). The wiring diagram in the Haynes manual should give an idea where the switched ignition live is in the fusebox.

I bought the MS202 this morning from a car boot sale. The guy said it was not coded.

I never asked him if it was,so i guess he had no reason to say if it was or was not coded.

If it involves a lot of fiddling about to fit it i will make do with my old one and the annoyance of the intermittent on/off problem.

I was hoping it would be a simple straight swap over, with there being no c/d player on MS202.

If you just get the ISO plug and plug it in, try turn it on, I suspect it will say "safe" meaning it needs a code. There should be a number starting SKZ on the stereo and the code is derived from this somehow.

Yes there is the skz2z5b fllowed by seven numbers.

What these numbers are in relation to the code i do not know?

i am going on holiday Sept so i will try the ISO plug when i return.

I will post the outcome regarding the code and the safe message showing on the radio.

If its the Fabia unit it WONT fit in the dashboard, as it is larger than the standard DIN slot. Only standard DIN size stereos fit the Felicia.
