Parcel shelf problem

Featured Replies

I've had to remove my parcel shelf for a few days (steel pole off a builder's van through the rear window, glass everywhere, etc.). On replacing it today I find there's nothing to stop the two lifting cords at the ends from pulling through their respective holes. I assume that they had cord locks, which are now lost on my workshop floor; or were the ends knotted? Either way it seems odd that whatever was there has come undone.

Could someone kindly have a quick look and tell me what I need to do to so that the shelf lifts when I open the hatch?

Hi mine has small rubber balls about 15-20mm in size bonded to the ends of the cords (have the kids got new bouncy balls by any chance :giggle: )

Hello Xenophon,

Sorry to hear about the damage to your SM. I've just checked the parcel shelf on my Yeti and the cord ends are attached to large black rubber "stoppers". Maybe your local dealer could order them for you, although personally I'd either make large knots or use a suitable sized rubber washer. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies; I know what I'm looking for now (though I'm still baffled as to how they came off).

Generally come off if the self gets caught or there's to much weight on it when you open the boot lid; item 21 in the parts diagram attached;

Now that is interesting.....What is no 33 and where does it go? Looks like part of the toneau cover which had a net which could be fixed to the roof to stop loads shifting forwards, which I had on my previous 5 series Tourings.....Interesting.

Just checked my "rubber balls" and I agree.

I'd cut an old squash ball in half ,to make 2 rounded washers,and knot through them.:yes:

Had the same on a BMW SE Touring 320D. Great piece of kit...........the car & the net.

Would be great to have it on a Yeti. I don't view the dog guard as any sort of substitute.
