blueish smoke at high speed

Featured Replies

Just checking with people as this is my first diesel now with petrol cars blueish smoke is not a good thing, i was driving the car the other day at some fairly high revs in 6th and i could see in the rear view mirror this blue smoke coming from the back. The car does not normally do this on normal driving it seems only when in 6th and at high revs, can any one offer any explanation? do i have some gaskets on their way out?

thanks matt

oh the car currently has a stage one remap incase that matters

does the car use oil?

Blue smoke is normally a sign of burning oil.

IMO it's an indication that 1) your intercooler can't keep up and 2) there's a haze hanging over the M40!

Seriously, the standard SMIC won't keep up with prolonged high output. If you intend to stress it regularly, might be worth an FMIC upgrade.

Also might be worth checking the current state of the intercooler. Mine was really clogged up on the outer surface so I removed the fog light grill and jet washed all the crud off.

If its blueish smoke its oil in the exhaust turbo seals may be beginning to perish and leaking on exhaust side of turbo.

Also when did u last check and top up your oil could just be burning the excess off if its been overfilled

it was serviced just over a month ago, fingers crossed its not the turbo seals

Please, turbo seals don't perish, what are you, a plumber?

Your second remark, however, is far less retarded and may actually be correct.

Ok maybe 'perish' is the wrong word to use. I meant that the seals maybe leaking a little and letting abit of oil through.

As for it being a retarded comment whine your neck in :-)

The expression is 'wind your neck in' and the only thing that causes turbo seal failure is turbo bearing failure i.e. the turbo has had it.

Haha, come on guys this is a friendly forum everyone needs to relax and just focus on helping the guy out with the problem not point out fault in someone elses suggestion(s).

Out of interest, high revs in 6th?? Without going down the route of incrimination, high revs, say 3k in 6th in mine is doing 120mph.

Hush Huxley, I am trying to help, it's just a bit of banter, no need for a ref ok.

Doesn't matter as when he mentioned that A road he was only using it as an example, the high speed run was on track. I do hope 120mph on 3k in 6th was track driving also.

If I'm a ref then your a girly premiership footballer! haha.

sep is a cheekheek hunt.

It's open to interpretation but 3K rpm high - pfft! Red line starts around 4.5K, and peak power is around 3.75K so to me, 4K is high revs.

Reads like you're one of the jammy gits who has an earlier, longer gearbox!

Aye, indeed I do have the longer gearbox, makes for very easy motorway miles. Still, being an older car then there are risks of other problems occurring.

ok well thanks everyone for there help and although it seems as a few are becoming a tad upset with one an other the help is appreciated, i dont tend to hit the conditions that simulate the issue very often so cant confirm if its still happening. All i can say is the roads used are examples only and were meant in a joking manner, i dont condone doing such speeds on such roads

thats all folks
