Slight Pull To Left - "They all do that"???

Featured Replies

I've got a very slight pull to the left, almost as if the car were reacting to camber more than others I've driven - perhaps a combination of heavy derv lump and wide tyres. The dealer says they all do this. Is it me or should this be perfect?

It's booked in for next saturday but I want to know if I'm being told the truth.

They do all do that to a certain degree...if it's pretty slight, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's more of a veer than a pull, then there probably is a problem...

Rob.

I've noticed it in mine recently so the dealer may be right.

It never hurts to get these things checked thuogh and mine is coming up for its 10k service soon so I'll probably mention it then.

Same here, was gonna pop it back to the dealers at the weekend. But it is only slight, and sounds very much like the problem you guys have got. Also, seems ever so slightly lighter to turn the wheel right, than it does left.

I initially put it down to the 5 speed humps I have to bounce over on the way into work.

I thought they were meant to say for example you fell asleep at the wheel/passed out ,the car would naturally head left as opposed to into oncoming traffic?

Probably urban myth

Mine had a slight veer to the left, but I took it to a local independent tyre place who said my tracking was way out and sorted it. Now drives pretty much true :D

Maybe I'm not so worried then - it's really slight, so much so that I'm not even sure it does it!!

I find steering right ever-so-slightly harder.

I blame the speed humps!

Mine's done that from new. Took it back to the dealer after I had it two days and was told to check the tyre pressures. Surely something they should have checked themselves as part of the PDI??

When it next goes in I'm going to ask them to check out the tracking.

At the AmD rolling road session had my tracking checked...technician said that they tend to pull to the left and that they offset this slightly so it doesn't do it.

Apparently mine had this already done.

A word of warning for everyone, especially the new owners - do check your tyre pressures as early as you can in the ownership experience.

I asked my dealer what the pressures were for the vRS when I collected it and was told "30 psi all around - that's what we use for servicing". Looking in the fuel flap when I filled it up told me they were different front to rear. A call to Skoda Customer Services soon had me armed with the correct PSI figures.

Yeah, I've set mine to 33 all round - one was nearly 45!!!

they will pull to the left as they have different length driveshafts

Any chance of posting the correct pressures front/back here ;)

IMO a lot of VAG cars are camber sensitive. In the UK I find they drift to the left and in Europe they drift to the right.... Also they are slighly affected by weight distribution (no passenger?). Something to do the traditional VW front suspension design which tends to be similar across all models (macpherson strut)

:finger: Tracking (i.e. toe in adjustment) doesn't affect whether a car drifts to the left or right...only handing (understeer/oversteer) and tyre wear...

BTW there is no camber setting adjustment.....

I agree, mine pulls to left a tiny bit, and I find steering to the right a little bit harder.

I was getting all paranoid, thinking "oh great, another car with steering problems". But having seen all these posts on here I'm beginning to think that it's normal on the Furby, although I don't see why it should be. Unless what LozGTI said turns out to be true, that would make a lot of sense.

Mine (fab vrs) also pulls to the left, I don't know if I'd judge it as serious. On the motorway, if I loosen my grip of the wheel then by 200m or so it might have moved about a foot or so to the left. I have to keep my right hand on the wheel, applying slight pressure to keep it straight.

After 12k the tyre ware seems even.

haha...that's funny..my car pulls slightly right...

I had it checked - tyre pressures ok and track & wheel alignment all within tolerances - the demo was the same too (but noticably quicker with 10k on it!).

I guess it's fine after all!

Alot of it is to do with the camber of road surfaces, helps rain water drain away to the side of the road,in europe you would have the opposite as your driving on the right.

Yep - and also the Furby vRS with it having wide tyres is a tad sensitive to that, which may make you think it pulls to the left 'on its own'

No, it's not just camber - 205's are relatively normal tyres these days on anything with a bit of poke; It's a definite pull - the dealer agrees and most owners agree.

BTW there is no camber setting adjustment.....

There is, by moving the subframe on its bolts you can level out or give a bias to the camber.

Usually a touch more negative camber on the n/s compared to the o/s will counter act drainage camber ont he road.

necroposting! ;)

... only had my car about a week, and i've just noticed this as well... was going to take it into ATS on the weekend to get them to do a free tracking check... but i think it might just all be in my head :/ i never noticed it for the first few days....

You really need a four wheel alignment check, tracking only usually wont tell you squat.
