New Tire Recommendations

Featured Replies

Hello,

Are there any good all season tires that I can leave on the car all year round.

My 170 DSG currently has Pirelli which I don't really have any complaints other than their performance in the snow for the last two winters.

Or am I asking for the impossible?

Not the impossible - just compromise.

Winter tyres have a high silica content which means they function best, and far better than standard 'summer' tyres, at temperatures below 7C where the rubber remains more pliable than summer tyres, which become more rigid.

All-season tyres have a compound more similar to standard tyres and extra deep grooving and sylphs to handle snow.

Looking at the German ADAC reports, the all-season tyres from the major manufacturers seem to get marked down for poor snow handling, wet handling and general wear.

So yes, in winter they will be better than a summer tyre and in summer better than if you kept winter tyres, but they are the proverbial jack of all trades but master of none. Best used only in moderate climates.

Tire is what happens when you work hard - unless you're American. :giggle:

I just fitted 4 "Falkens" to my elgence. There was a very slight increase in road noise but it has settle down, now that i have had 2 months of wear.

They were fitted just before I took the car to Venice and back (2600 round trip from Scotland, during which I drove through 2 thurder storms and they were good, tricky corners in the Alps and 85 to 90 on the motorways in Italy.

Before buying a tyre try using

www.tyrereviews.co.uk (or.com)or www.tyreshopper.co.uk (which is nationa tyres on line)

I have found that I saved £20 a tyre by using the internet for quotes in my local area, also "tyreshopper" is the National tyres on line company, (never used them found the same tyre cheaper on line locally). It works by you ordering an paying on line and then goiing to your local "National Tyre" demo to have then fitted.

Quite a few Octavia scout owners have tried Goodyear Vector 4 seasons with good results, mytyres now stock the Nokian entyre which also gets some good reviews.
