What options are worth getting?

Featured Replies

Ash, I take it you bought yours secondhand and it is a pre FL model PD since the FL version has cruise as standard on the VRS.

I did indeed. Wasn't aware cruise control is standard these days though. Grrrr! lol! Not too much of a job to get sorted out though, so that's not too bad. Will be getting it done along with the bluetooth I think. Columbus might have to wait a while yet!

Are rear parking sensors and Maxidot standard on the VRS now ?

They appear to be over here in the emerald isle but we are paying a lot more for cars here due to excessive taxation.

Diesel cars are also much cheaper to tax(road) than petrol variants hence the popularity of the cr over the tfsi models.

You can remap the CR without removing the DPF and without any issues. The only issue is that the new CR have an encoded computer which needs to be removed from the car to remap. this makes the process a little more complicated and can not be done with one of those handheld units.

Thanks for that.

That is interesting to hear about the remap on later cars, as it is something I have had good results with in the past using the Superchips Bluefin, so I guess this is not such a simple option now.

I've heard that the CR/PD can get a little more wayward with a remap and it sends a heck of a lot of torque to the front wheels, would make things kind of interesting in the wet. Diesel if definitely the way to go if buying new here as it is by far the cheapest option to buy, tax and fuel here in Ireland.

All I need to do is organise a test drive now...

Hmm it's all very personal.

My only extra (4yr ago) was Cruise control.

Never had Xenons and I find the standard lights to be more than good enough.

I missed out on Maxidot because I didn't decide I wanted it until the car had started the build and they wouldn't add it.

I'd have leather if I could.

I actually find it harder to judge the front of the car rather than the rear, but I don't have any sensors and tbh I don't find it that bad. unless the rear windows are misted.

I've 18" wheels because they were free upgrades at the time but I'd have happily taken 17s, they don't make a huge difference to looks or ride.

My suggestions would be

Cruise Control

Maxidot

Leather (heated)

And if you feel the need, sensors all round.

I live in the emerald isle down in cork and I have a new 170diesel burner since march. Here's the spec

race blue hatch

maxidot, standard

rear sensors, standard

leather seats, heated, extra

18 wheels, georgeous, horrible ride on irish country roads/tracks, much noisier in the cabin than my last octy with 15's standard

cruise control, standard

xenons too costly

Bolero stereo, easy to use, standard

Spare wheel, 16inch, standard

2 year warranty

Very happy with the car so far but boy racers give me a lot of attention at times!! Averaging 45mpg at the mo.

A question for all the tekkies out there. Is it possible to successfully remap the new 170cr without any issues? Is the dpf removed in the remapping process and if so does this complicate the emmissions test during future testing?

The standard wheel on a vRS here is 17" (16" is the smallest that will fit over the brakes)

Also we get the auto wipers/lights as standard :)

Villa1 talk to Joe Power in Dublin about remap he is very good Joe Power knows his VAGS :)

Hi Dallan Have you had your vrs remapped and if so what are the results?

No i havent done it yet, but i have heard good results

i need to gather some funds and going to get rid of the dpf at the same time :giggle:

Curtain air bags if not standard, what price safety?

ESP again if not standard, what price safety?

Rear parking sensor I think are well worth the money.

Spare wheel possibly although we also go for a 5th one same as the rest rather than be hundreds of miles from home and limited to 50 mph. Not a problem in Ireland but worth it if you come over here a lot.

Have also got the active xenons, electric and heated seat, sunblind, all nice to have but if they were not part of the L&K I might leave them out.

6 CD is a waste of time with the SD card, something they should drop, one CD enough IMO.

7 speed DSG, well, amazing. Makes car quiter, more economical, well worth it. 6 speed is only option on VRS diesel as it exceeds VRS torque allowed on 7 speed. CO2 lower on 1.8 TSI DSG than diesel VRS DSG and performance similar.
