Where are all the sensors...

Featured Replies

Ok - I've dug it out... Which one you wanting? Before, or after cat?

Thanks! Well, the latest error 16524 refers to the second sensor...post-cat? But I've sometimes had 16514 too.

Ok then, for after the cat you probably want the display group 43 test.

Mode basic setting 04, using the brake pedal as previously described.

In four sections:

rpm (XXXX)

Degrees C (XXXX)

Voltage (X.XX)

Text

Nominal text value is B1-S2 O.K. (After test completes)

Voltage range is between 0.00-1.00V

Cat temp should be min of 400 degrees

And the engine speed should be between 1100-1700 rpm.

I should _really_ put this diagnosis document somewhere that people can get hold of it - it's pretty extensive.

And before the cat?

Could I run a few prices by you to see if they sound reasonable?

Local Skoda dealers: thermostat housing - 30; lambda pre - 105; lambda post - 88 and charcoal - 56 all excluding VAT. The dealer claims not to do thermostat on its own for the AQW, but local partco sell it for 17 excluding VAT.

Obviously I need to replace the charcoal...thinking of doing the thermostat too given how long it takes on a cold morning. Partco said theirs is an aftermarket part and not a universal one.....reasonable to go for that rather than the whole housing from dealers? I'll wait for the lambdas till I get someone to run those diagnostics.

Stat housing (if it comes with the sensor) is reasonable. I paid about that.

As for lambda pre and post... Personally i'd probably look at bosch part numbers and work out whether you can source out the bosch part #'s cheaper.

I'd probably get the charcoal and see whether the lambda issues you're seeing go away after the stat.

The 16825 evap error still comes up :( No lambda codes after about 200 miles since fitting the canister. Could it be the purge solenoid then?

Possibly... Or the cable.

Gimme a min and i'll dig out the diag document for that error ;)

Edit - Here's the testing schedule:

Thanks, Chris....where did you get hold of all these guides and diagrams? Collected over time or is there an ebook I could look up?

Seems like I'll have to buy a vacuum pump and a multimeter to do all those tests. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/112234-vagcom-16825-p0441-fault-code-any-quick-fix/ seems to describe a similar problem, even though it's not a fabia.

It'll be cheaper to buy those tools than giving up and going to the garage, right?

I have a full official service manual for the mpi that I managed to come across browsing the interwebs...

I could put it up for people to grab if there's interest.

As for the tests themselves... A multimeter can be had cheap (if not free if you know a techy friend you can borrow one off!) And the diode you don't really need - multimeter in diode mode would be more than fine for this.

My multimeter was probably one of the pieces of kit that paid for itself pretty quickly!

I think I should throw in the towel and take it into a garage :(

16524: lambda no activity B1

16556: too rich B1

16825: incorrect flow

Can those three be interconnected?

16556: too rich B1 - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/fuel-trim.html

As that seems to be based on Lambda readings, I suspect if you fix 16524, this one will sort itself out.

16825 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16825/P0441/001089

Bank 1 refers to which of the lambda sensors? Guess I have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Unless it's the fact that the two prongs on the new EVAP canister were the same size as opposed to one tall and one short in the old one. Dealer said I'd need to buy new piping with a socket compatible with the long prong....I just rammed the short-prong socket on as tightly as I could....maybe it's come off.

Guess my subwoofer upgrade has to wait.

Is it group 43 test for both lambdas?

Or can I just follow this?

Just want to work out exactly what to look out for when I ask a friendly local briskodian with VCDS for help.

Also, would a throttle body adaptation help? I didn't do one after I cleaned it the last time 5k miles ago and just read that it should be done.........if so, what else shall I look up to adjust/adapt on VCDS while I'm there?
