Met up with vrsrs this morning - he's the proud owner of my old MK1 Fabia vRS. Nice to see the old girl and Rob took me out for a spin to see what i'm missing

After the little ride in my old car, I know the good and bad bits :D

Basically, the MK1 vRS feels more involving as it has a manual box and better economy even when hooning along.

The MK2 vRS is faster (obviously - its 50bhp up if you take stock power, even though my old vRS had 157bhp stock!) handles better, sounds alot better.

I wouldn't necessarily say i'd prefer one or the other, (well, mine :p ) however i'd like to pick the good bits from each one and use it as a basis to make the MK3 vRS B)

I love my old MK1 vRS but feel more at home in my MK2 vRS, it makes me smile every time I drive it fast or slow.

good pics

Nice pics, whats the mk1 lowered by?

So your Mk3 vRS will have the more economical engine from the Mk1 and the better sounding engine from the Mk2? Can't wait to see what German engineering does with that!;)

The MK1 has AP Coilovers, wound down approx 65/70mm iirc

Is that tonbridge wells by any chance.

The old VRS does appear wider than the newer VRS, perhaps optical colour illusion.??

Either way I like both cars and would be difficult to choose which one if given that chose.

It's because the mkII is taller for interior space, like a shopping trolley.

I certainly notice this when going from my mkI VRS to my mkII Greenline II. The seat is a lot higher and can't be adjusted down so far. Better for people with creaky knees to get in and out I guess. It feels like I sit in the mkI and on the mkII.

Two good cars. Personally I think the mkII is a better daily/practial run around (if you don't do too many miles in the VRS) and the mkI makes a more involving toy. It's old fashioned, but good fun.

The Mk1 is such a better looking car IMO.

The Castle shots are Tonbridge Castle and the car parks are in Tunbridge Wells, yes.

The cars are technically on the same platform but the MK2 has the Octavia's front struts from what I understand. Should be same width afaik but the MK2 is alot taller - Boss Fox is right, you sit in the MK1, you sit on the MK2 :D

Good job the seats are better in the MK2.

xaosx - know what you mean, its a chalk and cheese thing. I didn't like it at first, and I still now only like the hatch in certain colours. Think the Estate is better proportioned than the Hatch.

Cool, I'm only about 20-30 mins from there myself. Should have a mini southern meet lol

Looking good! I really like the MK2, lots of potential, they just need smacking with the lowering stick

Matt

I like both, very nice looking cars, but the Mk2 is just a bit nicer for me. I've driven both types and they are quite different, but Mk2 just edges it, as I prefer the DSG for everyday use, noise is nicer and I the handling seems pretty tidy. The estate is nicely different as well. Good location for the pics.

Need to get some proper car park pics at some point and different locations.

stevobeavo - should meet up for a mini meet lol

matt - i'd love to lower the Estate, maybe when the misses isn't looking and i'm not paying for a wedding :D

loadswine - MK2 edges the MK1 on noise, handling and everyday use but MK1 is more fun to drive being manual I think.

Both look lovley!

Why was I expecting this?

Some good pics though, why not submit for the calendar?! The white's a good colour on the new one.
