Glow plug light flashing can be a symptom of the brake switch being faulty (why, I have no idea, blame VW!). Dunno about the other thing though, I've never seen an emissions warning light on my Fabia (or my older VAG diesels). I thought that was only an issue for cars with DPFs.

Ideally it wants scanning for fault codes with VCDS, I've got a copy in Nottingham.
