Boost gauge fitted at last!

Featured Replies

Managed to fit my boost gauge today in my VRS.

Wanted to do this for a long time and finally got round to it. Took a lot of engineering, but got there eventually. The gauge is mounted on some carbon fibre-wrapped plastic sheet.

I know vent gauges have been done before, but I've done something a little different (never seen it done like this before). I like the idea of being able to hide it if necessary. Comments welcome :)

Now you see it......

...now you don't........

I`m sorry, but that seems fully pointless to me why would you need to hide it? They are tricky enough to see when motoring it as it is, without hiding them behind slats. That said, it looks a top job, nice and well done, if its how you like it then its all good

I'm lost, why hide the gauge?

Thanks for the comment Matt. I see what you're saying. I'm not running big power (just standard), so I'm not going to use it like most modified VRS owners would. It's more of an accessory to use if I fancy and not if I don't. Fancied doing something a little different and I hope I succeeded. The front slats can be removed dead easily, so if I were ever to need to see it slightly more clearly, it can be done in 2 minutes or less! :)

Cheers.

...oh and I want to be able to hide the gauge purely due to circumstances. Unfortunately, I am currently parking my car in a rather unsavory area quite often, so by hiding the vent, it reduces it's interest to the scum roaming the streets these days.

I think it's a good idea. I'd also want to hide a poverty gauge designed for a petrol. Good job!

Me too, why bother having the gauge?

How about removing the slats of the vent? Easy to do and would look quite cool. ;)

How did you get the Pluumbing into the vent?? I have a vent gauge bit there is no where for the wiring :(

i think you have to drill a hole in the side of the housing to route the wires through mate

Mine is the driver side vent, I drilled holes in the back but there was just steel behind it :( if I frill on on the side how would I route it through the tiny hole?

Cheque book warriors!!! :giggle:

I know that if I had a high disposable income then I would do the same.....but would get bored quickly I imagine.......It's taken me 10years...no about 8 years of modding my current car.........If I had more money then I'd sort the bodywork (rust blisters around whel arches, slight ding one arch, stone chips etc)....I like doing it the "hard" way!

P.S.on the OP.....good job!!..never seen it done (prob a good reason... :giggle: ).......I still want to add a combi digi oil temp and pressure gauge from SPA Design....only place I might go for is a pod mount in the tray area infront of the front ashtray...and angle it up to face the driver! :S

Yep exactly, if only the car was the only thing i had to spend my spare cash on then all would be good, shame it isnt though. Plus i cant see how the gauge the OP is using differs massivly from one that could cost 2/3 times as much either lol, still does the job.

Yeah id love a massive turbo, full respray etc, unfortunately, it spends quicker than its earned :(
