Mladá Boleslav, 5 September, 2011 - ŠKODA will present a world-premier design concept called MissionL at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show. Close to the final production-ready design, this concept car reveals the look of ŠKODA's upcoming model line that is to become symbolic of the Czech carmaker's planned model offensive.

The new compact five-door vehicle will be launched in Europe, Russia and China. In line with the brand’s internationalisation principles, this compact ‘liftback’ will feature specific modifications in each of these regions. In addition, the Indian market will have its own version, a compact sedan. These steps are in line with the goals of ŠKODA's 2018 growth strategy that was set last year in which the brand intends to increase its sales to 1.5 million vehicles by 2018.

“Revealing the look of our new compact model, the MissionL shows exactly the direction our brand is going to take,” says ŠKODA Board Chairman Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland. “The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that ŠKODA is going full steam ahead now. We are going to present a new vehicle every six months over the next two or three years.”

In line with its 2018 growth strategy, the brand is gearing up, investing heavily in new models, markets and production capacities. Starting in mid 2013, the Yeti will be launched in the Chinese market and will be produced locally. Furthermore, ŠKODA, in cooperation with Shanghai Volkswagen, will produce a new compact model for this market from 2013, increasing the number of models produced in China to five.

The brand will also expand production in Russia through the Volkswagen Group's partnership with the Russian-based car manufacturer GAZ Group. The GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod will start producing the Yeti in the fourth quarter of 2012. In India, ŠKODA will start production of a brand new compact sedan this year. The brand also remains focused on its traditional markets – Europe and the Czech Republic, its home market. Beside the Fabia and Octavia, ŠKODA's main plant in Mladá Boleslav will produce a third model; the brand is already increasing the capacity of its production lines. Starting in late 2012, ŠKODA will also manufacture the automatic twin-clutch gearbox DQ200 in its plant in Vrchlabí.

ŠKODA's presentation is situated in Hall No. 3, Stand A05.

The brand's press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 September, 2011, from 12:15 PM till 12:30 PM.

Russia? Build quality of anything Russian is still highly suspect.

The shape looks very similar to the Octavia, but presumably on a smaller scale. Not as big a leap forward as previous concepts have suggested. And presumably Skoda UK will be hobbled again when it comes to offering the colours and options available in mainland Europe!

Chris

Options will be key. Russian production sounds inauspicious to me :|

AFAIK Russian, Indian and Chinese built Skodas are only for their home markets. British Skodas will still be built in CZ (or Slovakia)!

Looks like an EXEO or Audi A4 in side profile.

Nah.. it actually looks nice!

Pretty generalised and prejudiced there! You sound like you've seen too many James Bond films.....

One might argue that Russia are the most technologically advanced nation in the world. Seeing as they are the only nation with the capability of delivering humans to the International Space Station.

We have engine manufacturing plants in Russia, and they meet the same high standards as any other country. The most efficient plants are normally the newest. Hence why most of the new plants in China are now outperforming older European plants. Pre judging a components quality based on it's origin of manufacture is an outdated concept.

Sorry, I had a bit of a rant there!

Good to see Skoda expanding...

Think the side profile is very nice, quite understated.

So if it's meant to be mid-way between the Octavia and Fabia, which VAG group platform is it based on? There's nothing between the Ibiza and Leon, or A3 and A4, or Golf/Jetta and Passat?

Good point!

...Unless they scrap the Superb and make the 3rd Gen Octavia a much larger car based on the A4/Passat then base the MissionL on the A3/Golf...

Roomster.

That was based on the Mk4 Golf/Mk1 Octavia (A4 platform) with some changes. Will the MissionL then be an adaptation of the A6 platform?

Only the rear end of the Roomster platform was from the Mk4 Golf, front end is Fabia with a new bit in between. From what I've heard the MissionL will be on the same, although maybe with further modifications?

It's quite feasable, the Roomster has a very long wheelbase.
