Vrs sump removal help

Featured Replies

I hope someone can help with this, I'm sure they can it's just me being a noob!

What it is, yesterday I wanted to treat the vrs to a service, dropped the oil and the sump plug wouldn't re tighten because the thread in the sump is knackered, so a little job has turned into a big one as usual! :(

I spoke to a mate of mine with a garage who said he could helicoil it for me to save buying a new sump. So I'm trying to get the sump off, I've undone all the Allen key bolts including the awkward ones on the gearbox side, the big Allen key bolt going through the box into the sump but it still won't budge! Is there any I'm missing or is it just the sealant holding it on?

when i changed the sump on my old corsa, i had to drop the exhaust, (which wasn't detailed in the haynes manual i might add!!) might be worth a look to see if it's this that's keeping it there??

Hmm it seemed like the exhaust cleared it but might see what else is around it to make sure there's nothing in the way, cheers for the quick reply!

I had a Corsa sport a few years back, I loved it!

Hmm tthe exhaust clears it because it's at the back of the engine but might see what else is around it to make sure there's nothing in the way, cheers for the quick reply!

took me ages to find it was the exhaust cos it wasn't obvious, so might take you a while!

i was stuck with a crappy '98 1.5td... so i didn't love mine but was built like granite and never failed (apart from an alternator)between 6 mths old and december 2010 when the engine finally seized at 70 on the motorway!

double check all bolts removed if they are its the sealant, very tight sometimes if you can just carefully tap a flat bladed screw driver on one of the corners it should come off be very careful tho not to force screwdriver to much.once its in a little bit get another one and work your way along .....good luck.

cant poss be exhaust effecting removal.

Mate did you just use the old sump plug? Because, (correct me if i'm wrong), the sump plugs are made from aluminium and it is THEM that tend to wear their threads down. 90% of the time people get a new sump plug due to this. Just a precaution!

Thanks for all the help lads it's much appreciated!

I think it's just the sealant then just need to give it another go!

To be honest I didn't an I'll definitely get one once the sump is fixed, the damage had already been done as the thread came out in twisted filings as I unscrewed it :(
