Mk1 Vrs 1.8T Issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Please could anyone help me with a few issues in my Octavia VRS 1.8T on a 04 plate, with 82,000 miles on the clock.

1. Lumpy idle speed on revs.

2. Intermitent engine fault light goes off/on by itself

3. Intermitent traction control light again on/off when restarted

4. On cold start on cool mornings my temperature warning/water temp light comes on, again goes off when restarted warm.

5. Possible excessive oil use i.e. 1 liter per 1500 miles

I have spent fortunes on vag/com diagnostics ranging from faulty reading accross MAF sensor so I replaced the MAF, no difference.

Also states faulty lambda bank1 replaced no difference.

Then voltage fault accross BOV haven't changed it yet as fed up getting no where!!!!

The last mechanic mentioned a turbo breather pipe but was unable to find any splits etc.

Any help or advice welcomed, as I'm getting seriously peed-off!!

Thanks in advance,

dont know if it helps mate but had the same symptoms and a couple more i.e. the intermittent warning for flat tyres and limp mode on my BMW and it turned out to be the ECU.

check for oil spray under the manifold.

If I recall correctly, a faulty coolant temperature sensor can cause some of these issues, particularly the lumpy idle.

If you've still got the old black sensor, you might want to change it to the latest (green) one... part No. 059 919 501A.

how does it run under load, any hint of misfires? A lot of these symptoms will coincide with a coilpack breaking down. If so there should be misfire fault codes logged in the ECU
