VRS service advice from dealer (bushes, brakes, drive shaft gaiter)

Featured Replies

Hi, I decided to get my VRS I just bought serviced at a skoda dealer along with a new radiator, only drove it 4 days :( I didn't have much choice but to get the rad done there as it was a serious leak and they didnt advise driving it.

They have come back to me with the following after inspecting the car:

Rear brake pads 80% worn

Brake discs lipped and corroded

Front brake pads slightly lipped -50% worn

= £214.73

Apparently the following really needs doing:

Corner bushes front suspension (pair) = £268.13

Near side drive shaft gaiter split = £155.10

Can anyone tell me if these figures are reasonable? The bushes sound ridiculously expensive to me, is this the part uprated Ibiza cupra parts can be used for?

What annoys me is that it passed an MOT 2 months and under 1000 miles ago with an advisory for offside lower suspension arm mounting deterioration but not resulting in excessive movement. Surely this other stuff should have been picked up? Is it safe to take the car to a VW specialist elsewhere for a second opinion after my service and new rad?

Advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cv boot can split anytime, it probably wasn't split at the time of Mot or it would have failed mine did, got that replaced by ali at unit 18 for £30, everyone on here would vouch for them there, I paid £80 for discs and mintex pads changed them myself, easy enough if you know how, The suspension bushes im unsure about, but still sounds overpriced to me if you can get the car to milton Keynes take it to ali he will do all that work and probably be less than half the main dealer price

The rear brakes probably won't make it to the next service, but you can leave the fronts.

No idea about the bushes.

As Pete says about the gaiter, and the blanket recommendation for Unit18.
