Amber/yellow oil light stays on after topup

Featured Replies

On the way home today the yellow oil light came on, I continued home (not too far) and checked the oil level to find it was down so topped up. I've started the car a few times since but it remains on. I've checked for fault codes with VAG-COM but there's nothing in the engine section. Should the oil light go out on it's own after a certain number of miles or does it sound like I have a bigger problem?

I have heard of people opening and closing the bonnet to reset the light after topping up but this hasn't helped....

It might be the switch on the bonnet latch assembly isn't working.... Normally when I top mine up, the light is out the next time I start the car.

Are you sure you topped the car up enough? iirc on my diesel it is about 1 litre from to get from "min" to "max" on the dipstick.

Thanks for quick reply - the oil's just below max now (didn't want to overfill). Think you might be onto something with the bonnet switch as had the latch etc. replaced following an accident a couple of years ago and haven't run ow on oil since so haven't had cause to test it. Is it easy to locate?
