One thing that should be remembered when talking about high power 1.8T's is that the powerband will be pretty narrow.

Here's an example I did a few weeks ago, 300,4kW (408hp).

That's a mad looking graph. Considering the strength of the engine I'm surprised it seems to lack revs. topping out before 5.5K. Usual Petrol scenario would involve more revs = more power. My Impreza doesn't produce 400bhp but it has a power band from 4-8K (7k+ if driven sympathetically). What's the limiting factor, cams, breathing?

It revs to 8500rpm but as you can see from the graph, no point to measure any further because it already peaks down there at just under 6k. Problem on that car is the cr*p Garrett turbo, GT30xx turbos have an awful design in the turbine housing, causing huge exhaust pressure when trying to get serious hp from them.

Anyway, point I tried to make, dont think 400+hp 1.8-litre engine is what one would call "nice to drive".

think a hybrid k04 would be a good driver and creeping onto 300bhp, or a gt28rs for 320-330

Is see your point, no bottom end response. Only starts looking interested after 3500rpm.

i live in ukraine, not in russia :)

we have about 10 fabias with 1.8t (here in ukraine)

engine and gearbox was taken from octavia vrs (auq)

modified manifold (big bores)+ big bores in head

modified chamber, all valves covered with chrome (0.2mm)

hybrid turbo (k04 internals in k03 shell)

hitachi coils

DV relocated just before throttle (few days ago changed by BOV :D )

fuel pump bosch motorsport (044) and bosch green giants 440cc

all emissions deleted (n249, n112, n80, secondary air pump, egr, cat, O2) and coded out of ecu

custom short shift (gearbox side) and short shifter from ebay :giggle:

76mm downpipe

brakes

front 312mm, 4 pistons evo9, carbon lorraine rc6 pads

rear 280mm vented, 2 pistons mercedes s600, ferrodo ds2500

hydraulic handbrake, proportioning valve

all the lines braided goodridge

suspension

for now it is stock :smirk: (waiting for ohlins rally gravel spec)

omp steering wheel

omp passenger seat

toora bucket seat for driver

The 1.8t does sound good, but could you use a different VAG diesel engine instead? Like the 2.7 from the Audi A4 for example. Relocate the battery and you should have some space. I'm sure you could then get upgraded turbos for that etc. Might be easier than the petrol conversion..

I assume you mean the 2.7tdi? If your going to shoehorn that in then it would make more sense to use the 2.7T (Audi S4) petrol engine, more power, less weight.

So in theory, a 1.8T with a 5 speed box is 100KG lighter than a 1.9TDI with a 6 speed box!

So power to weight based on 1315 for a fully loaded vRS, 1215 based on a fully loaded with 1.8T and 1230 for a 225 1.8T will be.

PD130 = 99

PD130 mapped to 160 = 122

PD130 hybrid GT1749VB making 210 = 160

PD130 with big turbo/injectors making 260 = 197

1.8T = 148

1.8T mapped to 210 = 172

1.8T 225 = 183

1.8T mapped to 240 = 195

So power to weight based on 1315 for a fully loaded vRS, 1215 based on a fully loaded with 1.8T and 1230 for a 225 1.8T will be.

Interesting, isn't it.

IMO the diesels make major sense up to the point of remapping and some sense up to 190-230(GT150 turbo or hybrid). Combination of "always there" power and economy can't be faulted. The extreme seems to be >260BHP or aiming for >300BHP. This, to me is entering the realm of money-pit. Likely low reliability and ever increasing costs to upgrade or repair.

If you start with a Petrol model and shoehorn a 1.8T into it, you don't get the fuel economy of the diesel, but even so, it won't be noticably worse than flaying a 1.2 or 1.4 everywhere at maximum whack.

After that it just not cost effective when you start with intercoolers, clutches, flywheels, turbo's, injectors etc. Even more so when you can just sell up and buy a 1.8T Polo or Ibiza and have a better starting place for if you just want power.

The 2.7 V6 is longitudinally mounted in the A4, good luck getting a 60 degree v6 in transverse unless you would go rwd. Go rwd then it's a lot of fabrication.

Running my Fabia as it is with 200-220ish bhp I'd save bucket loads in tax, insurance & fuel over a 1.8t. Plus I perfer the power delivery of the diesel, and perfer the Fabia as a car.

That's just plain stupid. Who'd ever think of scamming the system so bad as to not mention an engine swap! The thought of it is horiffic.

People do this! the amount of corsa b 2.0 conversions you see kicking about with a fine print on the listings reading.

my last octy with engine swap was still cheaper to insure then the standard car all mods declared
