Both cost me roughly the same but I would have to say the Jabba one felt better. Cutting out the front bumper and steelwork made a noticable difference though.

how does that affect the strength and look of the car? if it makes a difference i kind of fancy it but don't really want to make it look too non-standard

As for the look http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19358 check out post 12. Doesn't mean you have to cut the front.

Well it gets flung round tracks and hasen't fallen to bits yet

who did the bodywork to the bumper for you and did it actually take much work? not sure if it would suit my needs/wants. but deffinitly worth considering. does it really make that much difference then?

I'm a dab hand with an angle grinder. :D took about 2 hours with fitting the intercooler.

What do you need/want from an FMIC apart from the obvious??

If you're not running silly boost or a bigger turbo then no it won't make that much difference but you will keep the power you've got for longer and will allow you to run more boost. :D

wouldn't mind more boost, unless it meant blowing something up. i just kinda want to keep it looking understated and pretty much stock. but open to suggestions. who modded the bumper or is that more (well done)DIY?

I do all my own work.

Reading between the lines I sense some uncertainty, If that is the case don't do it. If you can't afford a dropped rod or a blown turbo don't do it is my advise.

but alot of that is blocked by the bumper. Does that make a difference?

It works incredibly well with no noticable fall off in Power. When it was mapped on the road last year the temps were excellent according to Michael (Jabba). We gave the car a really hard time in Spain last year on the cannonball & the performance was more than adequate (bye bye BMW M3)

I thought about side mounting the number plate & cutting away some of the bodywork but the bit behind the bumper is a strengthening member, its only when you have a prang that you will find out how important it is, I also wanted to keep the front of the car subtle.

the Intercooler was custom made by Allards. There was only about a day & a half to do it & one thought we had but didnt have time to carry out which would have given more flow was to mod the Bonnet Release, you could then bring the Intercooler up higher in front of the Rad & benefit from more air flow through the main front grill.

I may also have benefited by removing the Plastic front grills & replacing them with "Jag" style mesh. Anyway Im incredibly pleased with the results, If you look here http://www.briskoda.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1358&size=big&sort=1&cat=500 there is one with the bonnet open, you will then see what i mean about the Bonnet release catch

Couple of things to remember with Intercoolers, Always get one with soldered cores, not glued, a lot have the fins glued to the pipes & glue isnt such a good conductor of heat. Secondly try for a diagonal flow through it as mine (bottom left-top right), that way theres less stagnent air in the intercooler

strengthening member,

Will it help protect the FMIC in a crash?

If I was going to spend

IIRC....Leeboy has an Allard FMIC like Stuart's...Lee however has had the crash bar...I think...removed.....the top part of the bumper...above the number plate...is very flimsy now...IMHO....looks good but I wonder about it's effectiveness in a crash.

Also with out the grills covering the FMIC.....I reckon it's more susceptible to stones makig a mess of the core....not sure how much bending of the core fins will effect air flow through it though.
