My Roomster TDi 2000 miles on.

Featured Replies

Ive had my Roomster, a 1.6TDi 105bhp SE for a few weeks now and have now covered over 2000 miles. So far its been superb, easily carrying all our WW2 reenacting gear to shows all over the country. The fact the seats come out is fantastic as I am losing loads of weight before adding to it. The back end of the car doesnt sag like the Fabia Estate I had, and this makes a huge difference to the cars handling when laden, In the Fabia, the rear felt pendulum like when loaded up and the front too light. In the Roomster non of that happens and is the cars best plus side over the Fabia Estate.

Ive had no faults at all, the interior can creak a little at times but its no worse than my old car. The engine has used no oil at all since purchase, its feeling a little less tight now but not too different from new. Fuel consumption is averaging around 55mpg overall but I have had an indicated 73mpg on a slow trip into work one morning. Around town and in traffic its getting low 50s and on the motorway at 70mph around mid 50s. This can be easily brought up to 60mpg by keeping to 65mph.

So, a happy bunny so far.... everything is better than the Fabia Estate but I do miss those storage bins in the rear of the Fabia as they were so useful for things like beer :giggle:

Thanks for the encouraging post, I'm just buying a 1.6 Tdi CR 90hp. A lot of people talk of DPF problems, but I'm hoping that taking notice of the handbook will help me avoid them. As I'm getting a 10 reg with 20k on I wonder if I should pour in some DPF cleaner when I get it. Any thoughts?

I've now had 3 DPF equipped cars. A C4 Picasso, I forgot it was there (and DPF problem forums seemed to be less active then), An Alhambra 2 Litre PD engined Seat and now an Altea XL Ecomotive and have never had a DPF problem.

I had the Alhambra for over 2 years, followed the instructions in the book, gave it a weekly 2000 rev burn off using 4th at 50 to 55 mph as part of a journey if I'd been in light traffic all week. Never a problem. No warning light.

I presume i'll do the same with the Altea.

My only advantage is that I rarely go into city rush hour traffic and my commute is relatively early morning and later evening, so North West traffic tends to be reasonably light.
