Sensible mods

Featured Replies

Hi all i have just purchased my first mk1 octavia vrs.. The guy i bought it off has already had a stage 1 map with a panel filter and a 007p recirc valve i dont want much more ouf of it just a good quality affordable intake system and a nice sounding exhaust (maybe some witech coilovers :).. Maybe) any ideas guys to steer me down the right rout would be greatly appteciated...

RARB - improve the handling.

There's no such thing as a sensible mod tbh, if it's a family car you'll regret putting coilovers on there, far too hard!!

Thanks for the replys :) would there be much point puttin an RARB on without upgrading the suspension? And i am 22 lol i know its classed as a family car but its lowered on springs anyway when i bought it and i dont like the bouncy ride? Av herd the weitec are a good ride?

Once you start you will never stop modding.

For air intake, I've had both k&n and Carbonio. Personally I like the Carbonio better. It sits in a better place for getting direct cold air.

Be interesting to know what springs were fitted. If it's still bouncy, then they might not have been for the vrs. I lowered mine on a set of Cobra's. Never had a problem and is a firmish ride. Dampers are still fine too after at least 50,000 miles.

Don't know much about exhausts, but I would recommend getting turbo back rather than cat back. With a sports cat on it.

Rear arb is a must on the octy if you keep the standard front arb, the whiteline is the one to go for.

I went for the golf r32 front arb 23mm that I got my local Skoda dealer to fit. And then fitted the nurspeed 28mm rear bar.

The car turned in much better.

As for the coilovers, I fitted the kw vary 1 and they are hard. But it corners so flat and so much faster on smooth roads. Bumpy roads can be a little bit of a handful.

Thanks for the replys guys :) am going to be upgrading or sorting the suspension first i think like you said blue river he could have had crap springs fitted causing it to be quite bouncy i cant imagine him splashing out for H&Rs tbh am still torn between buying upgraded dampers and keeping the springs or weitec coilovers and rear arb my budget wont stretch to KWs but am not going to skimp on cash where its needed lol i still want a good ride (from the car lol).. Are sports cats necissary other than MOTs obvioualy but i would put the cat back in for that because i was thinking turbo back and de-cat i have a brilliant custom exhaust company nearby called MIJ performance i was going to pay them a visit?

I had another idea.

I would also replace the dog bone and rear axle bushes with a poly equivalent. This is relatively inexpesive and helps with handling and wheel hop. You do tend to get a bit of vibration through the car while they bed in, but i've cetainly noticed the difference in mine.
