Total European Yeti sales for 2010....

Featured Replies

The Yeti was the 88th best selling car in Europe last year with 45,979 units sold.

Whereas the cash cow was at No. 10 in the UK with 39,048 sales in the UK alone in 2010.....No wonder we still don't see that many Yeti compared to the cash cow as an example. Even BMW make more X1 than Skoda make Yeti.

You do wonder if Skoda cz ramped up production to double or treble, if they would sell more Yeti. I'm sure the long delivery times put some people off.

How long does it take to get an X1 or a cash cow?

I assume that Nissan gear up for larger numbers so can cope with demand whereas I get the impression the success of the Yeti has caught Skoda out. I am seeing more and more Yeti's up here now but although it has not been out long I am already seeing more Juke's than Yeti's.

I see more and more yetis over here in Serbia, reality is Yeti have good reputation and good internet reviews.

EDIT: I cannot remember bad review for Yeti when I bought first one.

There is also a no option policy on the Cashcow. You cannot spec anything bar its colour and have only three trim levels to choose from. Makes it very easy to build as a result. Can you imagine how many Yetis are unique with all the options you can have on them?! I prefer having options to the take-it-as-it-comes approach.

I'm glad they don't sell loads here.

My local dealer offered us 13k in part exchange (in six months) for ours and we only paid a bit over 16k when it was new.

So if we went for a new one the current one has only lost £40 per week.

That's amazing. If they sold loads the used demand would be much lower.

There is only one - Whatcar gave the Yeti a three star.....out of five.

Good shout. That sounds similar to the Citroen approach before the recession where they used to fill fields full of cars and so lead times were 2-4 weeks. I can certainly see the benefits from a production point of view.

I seem to remember their complaint is of wind noise and a jiggly ride, neither of which I have noticed in my 14 months of driving a Yeti.

Yes, altought there is 3 stars out of 5 on whatcar, reviews is pretty much positive.

Against Excessive wind- and road noise; unsettled ride.

Wind noise is there, but I cannot say it is unsettled ride, at all.

They should compare it with other SUVs, and Yetis ride is in differnet league, more like C segment car.

My look just now shows 4 stars?

Skoda changed the suspension on MY11 cars which I think helps with this. I think the earlier ones were more jiggly. I certainly noticed it when test driving, but it didn't stop me ordering one. I think the now have the golf MK6 front suspension lower arms - probably for cost reasons emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

The ride on Elsie is pretty good, though could do with getting rid of these silly wheels and find some decent 16" wheels.....Roll on winter when I can have more comfort. emoticon-0100-smile.gif (just can't afford/justify the expense of changing the summer wheels & tyres.emoticon-0149-no.gif)

Some interesing numbers on the Yeti's main competitors:

The Kia Sportage is 111th (30,502 units) and its (FAR) uglier Hyundai iX35 sister higher than the Yeti at number 85 (47,080 units). Ford managed 72,812 Kugas at number 56. The ageing Honda CR-V could only muster 38,803 units and languishes at number 101 with the Suzuki SX4 very close with just over 36,000 units sold (eh?! Who bought them?!). The VW brand lures the most suckers (oops I mean buyers with 105,799 Tiguans sold (number 39) and top of the tree is the Cashcow (yep Nissan must be smilling all the way to the bank having replaced the Almera (remember that?!) with this): 207,749 units sold.

Can one count the Q5? Over 65,000 sold!!!!! The X1 as mentioned above sold over 77,000... but where?!?! You hardly ever have the misfortune of seeing one on the road and thank heavens for that. The Freelander only managed just over 28,000 units at number 115 and the Defender just over 4000. No wonder they want to replace it!

I think I saw more Lamborghinis than X1 on the street.

Down here in London X1's are almost 2 a penny. More money than sense.........

Thankfully not in my experience! They leave them to suburbia then. Phew. From zone 2 inwards (where I live) there are preciously few. And my eyes are thankful as without B) an unexpected X1 sighting is not something good for anyone's health. :giggle:

Hehehe... I have nothing against suburbia! In the least. Just that I can't stand the X1! :giggle:

:giggle::thumbup: Good. Had I been a greenie living in the centre of town I'd have been driving an electric something or another. As it happens I have a baby 4x4 so my heart is far more inclinded towards the greenery of suburbia and beyond than the smoke of zone 1!

I'm a petrolhead greenie at heart, living I guess in suburbia, but need to be able to work all year round, in a hilly area. So I bought a 'baby' 4x4 as well. Makes a change from the not so baby classic RR 3.5 V8 litre petrol I owned a few decades ago, when I was living in rural Oxfordshireemoticon-0136-giggle.gif. I guess the 'baby' SM is about the greenest diesel 4x4 auto available. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Funny thing is, I think the SM has more power and torque than the old V8.

There's one X1 near where I live. It's brown.....
