vrs tuning

Featured Replies

Hi all i did what seemed the right thing and got my VRS remapped with Revo, what a fantastic difference this made with extra MPG (when not driven aggressively) and power. Now what i was wondering is there anything like maintenance or any modifications that are a must if having the 1.9 130PD remapped? anything that can improve MPG or BHP or just general engine running.

EGR delete

FMIC

PD160 Air Intake

Then you'd just need a new turbo for 220bhp!

Pd160 intake will make a difference

Start saving for a clutch?! Kind of joking but not, it depends on how you drive, my clutch went within two weeks of the remap, but there are members on here running the oem clutch for years after the remap! Apart from that pd160 airintake panel filter is a very popular mod, then for handling rear anti roll bar, suspension, 312mm brakes, it depends on how far you want to push it.

Ahh crap I hate writing long posts, this always happens every one else says what I've said in a short post!

Thanks for the advice guys, with the PD160 air intake does that make a great deal of difference when used in conjunction with a performance filter E.G green cotton panel filter. As for the clutch the car hasn't done many miles to begin with <30k and i don't like being to harsh in first with the torquey little furby! if i need to drive it aggressively vs diesel BMW's who think they can out motor anyone ill usually get them mid range LOL  SUCKERS!

I'd say first thing to do is to learn to drive it properly, otherwise you will kill the clutch quite quickly.

Don't floor it fully until at least 2500 rpm, especially with a Revo map on there as they are known for being clutch-killers. Basically treat it more like a petrol than a diesel. A decent map should still be pulling strong at 4000+ rpm so there is no need to change up so early and kill your clutch.

Make sure that your air filter is clean - it can make a massive difference. Don't bother with an aftermarket one, just go with OEM paper - they're not very restrictive and will run 220bhp+ no problem. If it's dirty, change it. Costs only a few quid and takes 5 minutes.

Also make sure that it's serviced well, and use the correct oil.

Other than that, anything more is really upto you. If you want more power, then look for PD150 or hybrid turbo and a FMIC.

If you want to sort out the handling, then I'd first look for 312mm brakes, RARB and then coilovers if you find it's still not what you want.

The map was done at Revo but the map put on was apparently a custom map for that car? low down its not as harsh boosting VS the Revo as i did try them both. its more of a smoother map, the tuner said to me it would be less harsh on my clutch and also less likely to go into limp mode. What all that means i dont know, i can average on the top end of 60+ MPG most days on my 13 mile round trip to work so i wouldn't say the clutch is under too much strain? what do you reckon from what i'm saying here? might need a a new clutch soon :(

Erm a car shouldn't ever go into limp mode unless something is wrong with it. It's the ECU basically shutting down the turbo to stop it overspooling and killing itself.

A tuner saying their standard map can cause the car to go into limp mode rings alarm bells if you ask me.

Yea it did at the time, i never actually witnessed this limp mode thing! he then went on to say i can do this that and the other to my turbo to make sure it never will. I think he was on a sales pitch cause i have had no problem with the car since it was remapped 7 months ago.

That is exactly why I went to Shark rather than anyone else.

You don't get any sales flim-flam and just get the honest truth.

How much are shark mate? where are they based? i wouldn't mind getting this map wiped and replaced with a new once to be honest.

They're in Mansfield. Price is obviously dependant on what you require, as they have their STS if you don't want to travel to their HQ. Don't forget though, signing upto FREEDOM on here gets you 10% off, so that's more than the £12 subscription already.

Have a look at their sub forum. Shark Performance

Cheers pal I will take a look! So on the clutch if it's driven nicely the oem clutch should last?

It should do yeah.

Change the air filter every 10K. Stock servicing is every 40K! either get a PD160 intake or make your own larger ducting to the airbox.
