Well whoever it was I've raced him twice now. Once in a tts and today in my chipped 135i. That thing is fast.

I miss my TT :(

Fancy a vrs firthy?

No not really, I like em, I even like the shape. I couldn't believe how fast it was in st8 line, must have been modded because my 135i is no slouch. In fact in the tts I couldn't get away from him. !

Really nice car though but it's like R26. I love em but wouldn't buy one. Anyhow I've a BMW1m on order so I'm already committed.

Love to meet the owner of the Fabia though, must have been heavily modded IMHO.

We nearly bought a BMW 1 series m and specced it up 2 £27/29 k but went for a look at the fabia test drove it and then bought 2 fabia's for £22 k so win all round, best thing we ever did would never buy a Beamer overrated

Firthy i am guessng it was a new mk2 fabia, in which case the vRS,

Even the most modded of them aren't putting out more than 220bhp,

Your 135i is 304bhp stock and those twin turbo engines can be chipped comfortably to 350bhp(maybe more)

So really you should be showing him a clean set of heels in your beamer.

BTW i love the 135i, such a sleeper and so so fast, the only problem is the 335d coupe exists which is imo the best diesel engine currently available, it's free revving and remapped to 330bhp it's really bloody lively, sounds as good as a diesel could possibly sound too!

Id love to know what it has to keep up with a 270bhp TTS nevermind even try with a circa 350bhp 1series :o

Maybe the issue is with the driver ;) hahaha :giggle:

Well guys I'm a massive petrolhead and I've probably done approx 100 laps of the nurburgring, lots of track days and a far bit of karting so I'm not new to driving fast. I can catogoricly tell you now that I could not get away from him in the tts. I had the legs over him in my 135i which is chipped to around 350 and has duel cone air intakes.

Yes the 135i is a great car, but I was impressed with the skoda rate of knots!!

Well Thanks for the complement Firthy, we are glad the Fabia vRS has another supporter :-)

As for the Audi TT's in general they aren't as fast as people think... a TTS has 268bhp, but put through a quattro drivetrain as opposed to just either a fwd or rwd so there is more loss in power before it gets too the wheel.

So against Mr Firthy's 268bhp tts is a remapped 210bhp Fabia vRS, lets shave of 15bhp from the fabias figures to get a true wheel bhp

and about 35bhp off the TTs

so the figures stand at

TTS 238bhp vs vRS 195bhp

Lets look at bhp per tonne figures now...

TTS 169bhp per tonne and vRS 150bhp per tonne

Not that vast a difference between the two afterall.

Also there are other considerations to take into account, such as the lower rolling resistance from the skinny tryes fitted to a Fabia, all these things add up.

Mr Firthy i suggest you take your 135i to work a few more times and teach this young upstart the advantages of a 3.0litre straight six twin turbo charged bmw engine over the 1.4 tsi vag junk!(2.0tfsi also vag junk)

Edited by Sonner

IIRC from when i swapped there is around 50kg difference with a vRS and a 2.0tfsi Audi TT...

Even allowing for the extra weight of the quattro, and 4wd transmission losses, the fabia would have had to be putting out about 240bhp to keep up!? Unless your TTS has problems.

I really must emphasise how good those 35i bmw engines actually are... they just have such a smooth and free revving power delivery that normally isn't associated with forced induction.. and the torque is so instant yet smooth.

BMW just seem to really hit the sweet spot when turboing six cylinder engines because the 3.0D engine that generates 231bhp is the most petrol like diesel i have ever driven but with the advantages of diesel economy. it even has a tolerable engine note when revved hard.

a Fabia is 1313kg and a TTS weighs 1395kg

it's heavier than a normal TT because it has bigger brakes and wheels and higher standard spec.

Not targeted as Mr Firthy btw

But compared to a tail happy 135i a TTS is quite a boring car... yes like all audi they look nice and are proficent, compotent cars.

but the 4wd does numb the experience somewhat, and it lacks the driving dynamics that even the base spec lower powered bmw saloons offer.

not saying that the vRS is the last word in fun and chuckablity....

I almost went for the 1 series although the 123d over the vrs...

Only thing to stop me was checking the insurance... vrs-£378 / 1series-£840

Maybe next time. And im sure you will have plenty of fun in the 1m!

watch the little vrs try and keep up then! :D

123d, another great hot hatch sleeper...

i'm looking for a used 123d coupe for under 14k for my my who is replacing her ford focus 2.0 tdci 140bhp..

very nice cars indeed...

but if your young like us then we can't consider them yet

this person is a friend of mine! anthracite wheels :)

Yeah tts wasn't my car but a friends I drove back from London for him, had a blow out with no spare and no run flats, who makes a car without them two items!!!! Argh!!! Right hassle I admit I really dont like it too much. Not as fast as I expected although it's a nice place to sit and the cabin is nice. But still hairdresser styley :-) 135i is great, residuals are a lot better than I thought, natural progression really to buy the 1M, I also have a toy in the garage for weekend/nurburgring but that thing is different league again.

Great car though guys, hats off to skoda, I'm converted!!!

Firthy.
