Alloy Wheels

Featured Replies

Has anyone else had this problem on an Elegance with std 18" alloys? I do high mileage and the car is circa 2.5 years old and some of the wheels look disgusting. The lacquer has chipped on the edges and water etc has got in and I have huge oxidisation bubbles - looks really awful. Contacted Skoda Customer Care with pictures a while later as issue had gotten worse (early on had asked dealer, but he said it was pointless) and they said "thats not something we can help you with". Not a great advertisement for what is essentially a good car and in steel grey, not bad looking. Am I the only one?

ANY alloy wheel that has a polished surface will get the dreaded 'white worm' which is when water gets under the lacquer and makes the alloy corrode.

Any wheel that has not got any chips in the lacquer where the wheel is corroding will be covered under the warranty, however if the corrosion is due to a chip this would not be covered.

This is one reason why I chose the Luna wheels over the std Themisto wheels, the other reason is the Luna's are easier to clean :giggle:

na, you wont be the only one - i would try another dealer - there has been several people with Octavia's wheels who have had them replaced under warranty.

Apart from that, a re-furb is around 60-75 per rim for a good job; but i dont think they could re-created the "Diamond cut" finish to a Thermosto alloy. - but then again, a painted wheel should last longer...

Most re-furbishers who paint the wheels (as compared to powder coating them) will be able to diamond cut the edges, what they wont do however is give any warranty on the diamond cut finish - as they know too well it WILL return, it's just a matter of time.

I had the ol 'White Worm' make an appearance on my Fabia vRS wheels got that replaced under warranty, no questions asked!
