Oil deposit in engine bay - from turbo?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I popped the engine cover off my Fabia vRS the other day and saw oil (dirty oil) on the foam underneath. Then I saw where it comes from, a little opening in a part I don't know the name of!! To do with the air supply possibly... will attach pictures in a mo...

Question is, is the oil meant to discharge there? Should there be a pipe in the little hole? What's the component with the little hole?!

Cheers,

Andy.

Cheers, I'll look for EGR Valve oil leak in the meantime!!

EGR

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve.

Quite an expencive replacement. Can get a cheaper blanked off alternative but its a bit ****.

thats the fella :) have read that a good clean out can cure it but if you have the reddies get it replaced or blanked off like ros53y said.

think it flashes the engine light up on the dash if you blank it off though......which is a bit poo.

if you have the right year and engine code you can get one new off ebay for £85 which doesn't seem that bad......don't know what dealers charge??

I have the same on mine, noticed it the other day when i took my cover off while doing an oil change, if oil it leaking through this breather hole, does that mean, it NEEDS replacing? what can it damage if you dont replace it?

If it leaks oil through the breather hole, the diaphragm inside the EGR is cracked. New EGR needed. Avoid cheap e-bay copies (made in China) as they fail in months. Part is about £180 from dealers, and fairly easy DIY, although one bolt is tricky to get at. Swearing helps.

is this a copy? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-08-SKODA-FABIA-VRS-1-9-TDI-EGR-VALVE-038131501AN-/380357066488?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588f0c3ef8#ht_1676wt_1346

also.....isnt the diaphragm above where the leak is? i could well be wrong but isnt oil just getting past the shaft?

Thanks all, is it likely to cause any issues... it's a tiny bit of oil in the scheme of things, mind you will only get worse I guess.

Mine's the same, been like it for a while. Annoying oil leak, but otherwise car runnin' like a train.

What's the problem/s running it like this? (Other than possible emissions failure at MoT?)
