You beat me to it. :D

I've had both recently. Better deals were out there but there's a time and a place.

The post office deserve much kudos for connecting you to the phone line with no minimum contract unlike those shysters at BT

BT might be the spawn of satan but if speed and no limits is what you need then infinity is worth a look. I spent ages trying to get sky to improve my 4Mb connection to not much avail and have just ended up moving to infinity, should be live on the 28th :D £28 a month for upto 40Mb (they estimate I will get 25MB+ and 5MB+ upload) Unlimited data, unlimited UK landline and 0845/0870 calls and you can opt to pay for line rental upfront which makes it £10 a month (£13.90 normal price) and free fitting and reduced payments for the first three months

Money fuku!

Calm down dear!emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Be/O2 are excellent IMHO and allow you the short contract, but infinity is good for speed too albeit with a much longer contract.

Sky LLU offers good value for money....

IF your exchange is enabled. Unlike mine :(

Try downloading torrents off this - quick if you think 2kbps (yes 2kbps) is quick. so hardly quick and 'unlimited'

These are great - i am with BE and it is totally unthrottled. On a 5MBPS connection on ADSL2 (long way from exchange!) and get 500kbps consistently on torrents.

I've been Virgin cable and never had an issue with them, only problem was when electric company chopped a cable, not Virgins fault.

You pay a bit more but I think it's worth it, I 've seen no end of issues with dsl based stuff over the last 7-8 years, If it has to be dsl then use BT, as they can only blame themselves when it goes tits up, I've seen people get stuck between two companys loads of times.

Neighbours tell me Infinety is good but I have no personnel experience with so can't really comment, I'll stick with virgin as BT "can't touch dis" ....... 1485211172.png

Yeh I've had no problems with Virgin either and that's after 3-4 years. Recent tests done by the BBC show they are miles faster than BT based connections as well.

100mbps fatty? I'm one of the few in the UK has the option to get it but I just don't think I could use that much speed all on my own :D

I was with Demon for the last 13 years and their service was really good, lots of features that you don't always get with others (eg static IP address, unlimited email addresses etc). I just moved to Sky today as my wife works there and we get it free. I have to say that (other than the email service which is just rebranded gmail) I'm very impressed so far, have even seen a slight speed increase. For pure speed though if you live in a cabled area you will probably find Virgin is faster than any DSL service.

I too have the virgin 100mb BB

Can download a 5gb torrent in about 7 mins or basically as fast as it can be uploaded/taken from server.

We have the following connected and I've never noticed any slow down.

PS3

TV

2 x MacBook Pro Laptops

2 x iPhones

1 x iPad

So it gets good hiding a fair bit of the time :)

All the Broadband suppliers are much of a muchness when it comes to speed and price, what does set them apart is when something goes wrong. A good supplier will sort it out with one phone call from you and within 7 days, bad ones can drag it out for up to 4 months, yes there have been quite a few.

If you want a good provider look at aaisp.

http://www.aaisp.net.uk/

They are a small independent that provide excellent un-throttled connections. I get 6meg in a rural area - way more than anyone else locally on the same exchange.

Went from toucan to pipex to talktalk (all the same company) i dont think they realise im paying £15 for bt line rental n 8mb broadband

Never ever had any issues but like the papers have said they are the worst company.. For complaints

If u have sky the bb package is best with them i beleive

I guy i know who is in the know says ill have super bb on bt in my area by next week :D 40mb to start with then 70mb later on

Funny mis-spell.

Anyway, if you want to look at ALL the options, visit http://www.ispreview.co.uk/

Just remember, many ISPs are great when everything works, but you want one that will quickly and reliably fix problems, so that counts out BT,, TalkTalk, and Orange for starters.

Well Sky went live today, and noticeably faster than Orange was.

But Speedtest.net shows worse results than Orange? Anyone know why when actually downloading say Iplayer or youtube and I have had much less lag.

Could it be that Iplayer, Facebook and Google (Youtube) all use Akamai as their CDN provider and IIRC, they still are still the largest since coming up with the idea.

Personally used Cambridge Cable > NTL > Virgin for 11 years. Customer service not brilliant, but otherwise I get exactly the speed I pay for (10mbit)

ping response, latency, contention ratios, servers etc etc.... Its not all about the speed ;)

Aye.

But Orange best was 3.5mb and Sky testing so far hasnt broken 3 according to the speedtest.net site, yet the difference loading pages is unreal. Like instant loading pages and very little of the progress swirl in the tab bar in FF.
