DAm...is it a write off 5 months old superb estate

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Have been absent for a couple of months from the forums, as some of you may have remmebered I was waiting 7 months for my Superb 4x4 Elegance. Managed to crash it today so I'm gutted.

Anyone know about insurance write off's and would this be classed as one.

Accident was my thought, was following a Honda CR-V jeep onto a roundabout, she committed then slammed on the anchors at the last minute despite there be no car on the roundabout. Very heavy raise but ultimately I wasn't paying enough attention. I tried to turn to avoide however it was too late and caught the front left of the car as you can see. Think I was doing around 20 - 25 mph at the time, the CRV had a slightly dented rear left bumper my one looks awful.

See below.

It looks bad, but if it hasn't moved the wheel/suspension it's not that bad. Mainly superficial where you've peeled the side of the car off as you tried to avoid the other vehicle rather than hitting it square, which is quite common in these instances.

Thing is, a Superb 4x4 Elegance is worth a lot of money, so the amount they'll spend before writing it off should also be quite big. Around 40% of market value typically.

Main thing is you are OK. Car can be fixed.

Without actually seeing it it's hard to say, but from that picture I'd expect them to repair it.

A pillar damage so will be very touch and go.

Hope you have gap insurance as insurers replacement only covers when not your fault *usually*.

If they stopped for no reason then they can be liable. For all you know could have been deliberate for injury claim and their car a loss.

Have you reported to the police and any witnesses or cctv?

Hi All,

Thanks for the quick repsonse and as you say no one was injured, I was more concerned that the lady in the car in front had 3 kids but she said everyone was fine and she seemed genuine enough on the surface. The CRV was driveable without too much damage apart from the rear left bumped.

No witnesses apart from my wife and no CCTV on the roundabout where it occurred.

Have GAP so hopefully not too bad, phoned the Police who turned up but they wern't too interested as both of us said they wern't injured...

Car was driveable to get it off the road and it went on the reovery vehicle okay, the wheel didn't look bent just had the wheel arch rubbing against it, I know you can't tell much by just looking at it from the outside, the wing peeled back so it looks quite bad.

The thing I'm concerned about is the dark grey frame underneath looks a little bit pushed in but the water bottle and that are in perfect position still.

I'm amazed at the amoutn of damage that has been caused by a releatively low speed impact.. I can't judge my exact speed but I know I was doign under 30 and I had already been breaking ready for the roundabout.

You may find that it's repairable, as said above it's quite a cost to write off, so if monocoque is ok it will probably be repaired.

If this is the case, insist the wheel and tyre are replaced.

Sorry for this to happen, especially after your long wait. Hopefully you'll have it resolved soon

Steve

Glad your OK, shame about the car, from experience (and some back room knowledge) CCTV will never be pointing at the accident/camera will be faulty/not recorded. As I have the memory of a sieve and because nowadays people seem to change their story after the incident and I'm as worried as anyone else about "crash for cash" risk and I've just ordered an in-car camera black box. when it arrives and I've fitted I'll take some pictures and post them here.

Glad to hear all are OK, Watch out for delayed injury claims though.

Link to black box in use in Aberdeen, driver trying to go south down the north bound slip road.

and the aftermath, pallets of cement, thankfully one of the few day it wasn't raining in ABZ.

OUCH - Airbags deployed on that eBay car - that aint too light of an impact!

Sorry to hear (and see) the damage - But it dont look too bad from the photo. - I'd still of thought £4-5k worth of damage tho...

Best of luck with everything!

Al.

Damage does not look that bad to me,

Does not seem to be any A pillar damage, on the superb the front wing extends a way up the A pillar.

As the airbags did not deploy, and due to the cars value, I expect it will be repaired back to its former glory.

Have a look at how much this going for now :(

THIS CAR IS 100% UN-RECORDED AND WILL NEVER BE RECORDED FROM THIS INCIDENT

CAR IS LIKE NEW, ONLY 3548 MILES FROM NEW - Hardly!! I would not buy a 'new' car in that condition!

DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. MAIN IMPACT ON THE O/S. END OF CHASSIS LEG DOWN ON DRIVERS SIDE. DAMAGEI SNT THAT BAD AND EASILY REPAIRED. SOME ORIGINAL PARTS IN THE BOOTS SUCH AS GRILLS,SPOTLIGHTS, HEADLIGHT WITH SLIGHT DAMAGE, OTHER PLASTICS ETC

CAR STARTS AND THEN THE AUTOMATIC CUT OUT KICKS IN DUE TO THE ACCIDENT ( PUTS CAR INTO LIMP MODE SO NO MORE DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED FROM RUNNING ENGINE.

NOT EVEN 4 MONTHS OLD YET

NUMBER PLATES WILL BE INCLUDED WITH SALE

NICE CLEAN CAR - REALLY?? my opinions on clean and his obviously differ!!

INSURANCE PAID OUT £18,295

S0 the insurance company has paid out (almost) the full price on the car, jet he believes this will not be recorded as a total loss? :dull:

Repairing cars makes them VERY dirty and will take a lot of work to make them look like new again (just look at the engine bay and this is before any repairs have taken place) - it's not impossible with a lot of work though (something that most repairers do not do however)

But it could be a cheap car for someone, just can't see how this will not appear on the cars history though

+1 the OP's car although it's gutting, looks like a pretty straight forward repair.

FV 11 UEF, if a member buys this they need to know the damage.

Surely the insurance database could do with knowing too.

Thanks for all the replies guys, fingers crossed. Mine doesn't look at bad as that and seems to have missed all major organs....hopefully. That is a very dodgy looking advert on ebay.

I guess time will tell, I'm so hoping that it doesn't get written off as I will have to wait anohter several months for another :'(

The good thing is no airbags deployed and the car was still fully driveable apart from the wheel rubbing, I do recall it telling me the front right light was not working, can't think why myself.

I made a little promise to her that if I get her back I will give her a complete clean with the putty, wax and everything and will drive her more gently.

Will let everyone know how I get on.

Be very aware that this happens at roundabouts on a regular basis.

The scams are a direct result of our stupid litigation rules.

This is why insurance renewals are so high.

Insurance companies have at last recognised that these scams exist and now use special investigation teams.

The amount of times i have nearly done this myself. Things need to change re this as people simply can't be concentrating at islands as i can see a few car lengths back nothing is coming, yet they come to a complete stop? This is driving without Due care and I think it is about time CCTV was placed at islands and fines given out.

But this doesnt negate the following drivers responsibilities.

The lead driver can almost do as they want. If they wish to fully stop at every junction, then they are entitled to do so.

Any news on the damage Sw1?

Hi All,

Just an update, I have been down to see the car at the repair centre to get some bits out, I had a good look at the damage and I'm more convinced now it's more superficial damage then anything structural, they told me the car drives okay apart from the rubbing wheel arch, the A-pillar also looks undamaged on the surface.

I asked the lady if it was repairable, she couldn't be 100% but said given it's so new it should be repairable.

She also asked if they could have the work carried out at their Chichester branch due to a backlog in the Basingstoke centre, she stated it would go there and back on a transporter. I'm happy with this if they can start the work on it straight away.

They are going to phone me in a couple of days with an update on repair and duration, in the mean time I will enjoy several weeks of the Nissan Note hire car I was given :'(

Since nudging someone at a junction a few years ago at roundabout and junctions I always wait till the car in front and fully gone and got out the way. I don't even bother looking to the side and check the road until I have seen them pull off.

Also stops any frustration with "why havn't they gone yet... I can see for miles!" kind of thing.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Hi,

Car is repairable hurrahhhh, they told me all of the repairs should be completed by the 10th October which is fairly reasonable.

Has anyone taken our Skoda ensurance, you pay £59.99. In the event of a crash you phone them and they will deal with your insurance and make sure your car is repaired at a Skoda authorised repair centre with OEM parts.

You will also be given a VW hire car as part of it, they also recommend you then remove the hire car from your own insurance making it more attractive.

Given recent events I'm tempted to take this out.

waste of money imo. Skoda assistance would pick up your car anyway and you can demand which bodyshop it goes too and any reputable shop would fit oem parts anyway.

HI SW1

Better the car than you and your wife. The car is made to take the kinetic forces created instead of displacing it on you.

The car maybe saved you from minor injury because of that.
