Octavia RS Paint Problem

Featured Replies

Hi all

I hope someone on here can help.

I've got a 02 Octavia RS with a serious paint issue. This is long story but I'll try to make it as short as possible.

In November 2003 I noticed a few white spots over the bonnet of our car. Each week when it was washed I started to see more and more appearing on the bonnet, roof, door panels and boot even underneath the rear spoiler. These spots are not stone chips, the paint raises, crazes then falls off.

Took the car back to the dealer, VW paint expert booked. Paint inspected and measured. Inspectors opinion "baked on fly or tree/bush sap so not covered under warranty

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear your tale of woe :(

Can't remember anyone posting about this to be honest but you never know. Sounds like the "possible answer" could have something to do with it, especially if it's as bad as it sounds.

Out of interest, though I don't think it will have any bearing on the answer, what colour is it ?

sounds like testing is the key as you are doing. I would think that someone could test the chemicals from the paint that is coming off so they could tell if it is bird droppings or something more nasty.

Does sound like the report is a bit of a cop out.

The car is black metallic, I think they called it Black Magic or something similar.

Bird droppings- These spots are around 2mm in diameter far too small for bird droppings or flies for that matter (my car is washed regularly you don't have a car like this and leave it dirty). As I say they are even underneath the rear spoiler. I had this discussion with Skoda, I pointed out that a bird cannot poo up-hill so they threw that suggestion out of the window and came up with the "flies have brains" idea .

I recently came across another owner of an Octavia RS who had the same paint problem (a red one). Their car was in the early stages which only covered the bonnet. Skoda wouldn't play ball with him either so he took the car to another dearler who bought it from him cheap.

I really don't want to loose that kind of money and I don't see why I should this is not my fault.

sorry to hear about that

heard the same thing happened to honda civics inc type R lots of wee marks under the surface but these marks didnt become holed like yours. i think its to do with the water bases paints they use now if the prepration isnt 110% things go wrong

just a pity skoda wont take liability like honda did

same problem on wifes rav4 the only time I thanked my lucky stars I had it Robber Gaurded - so they resprayed it under warrenty

I'm going through a similar situation at the moment with the laquer bubbling up and leaving the paint exposed.

Not going to say anything else as so far Skoad have been very helpfull.
