Fuel Light...Vrs

Featured Replies

But it's still only a guess based on what the car thinks you'll get from the remaining 5 litres.

It's an educated guess calculated from the way the car's been used. However something's wrong if it thinks there's only 15 miles left.

The manual also states 7 litres not 5.

Like said when light comes on its says approx 65 miles till 0 miles. Now when it does say o miles theres still 3 litres of fuel in the tank so seems strange for it to cut out. Not sure what the setup is in the tank but i have seen on other cars the pickup filter in the tank to be covered in a sand like substance but on the cars which had this they had misfiring syptoms when driven hard due to fuel starvation.

Thought id come back to this to see if anyone else had come across a similar problem lol... still sorta poor. Car not been used a whole lot since I started this thread due to working away...

I never let mine get that low, I normally look to fill up when the needle dips under 1/4 tank.

So where do you think fuel is taken from on a full tank? :D I'll give you a clue, it's still the same place it's drawn from if the tank is full, the lowest point.

The idea you are referring to may apply in cases where a manual reserve is used and switching over to the lower feed would allow you to pull the dregs of whatever was in the bottom of the tank through but we now have warning lights, a single fuel pickup and filters. The last time I saw such a system was on a 11 y/o bike but afaik Chinese clones still ship with a twin straw system with a manual reserve.
