can anyone tell me how to remove the plastic around the inner handles

have tried but cant get them off

You mean the big triangular piece that goes to the top and edge?

No - the bits with the switches in pop out but the bigger part is bonded to the door at the back - glued and fixed with sort of plastic rivets.

You'd have to take the whole door card off but splitting it apart is not a good idea IMHO.

Taking the door car off is easy enough though.
